The Actor’s Side: ‘Miss Sloane’ Star Jessica Chastain Launches Deadline’s Awards-Season Video Series

Welcome to The Actor’s Side With Pete Hammond. Yes, that’s me. And this video series is all about actors. This awards season I will be hosting a number of intimate chats with acting contenders beginning today with Jessica Chastain, star of EuropaCorp’s upcoming Miss Sloane. And what an appropriate way to kick off this series as we are coming off perhaps the most historical and combustible election in U.S. history.

Miss Sloane, which hits theaters November 25 after its world premiere Friday at AFI Fest, also takes us right into the heart of “combustible” politics as Chastain plays a take-no-prisoners Washington lobbyist who sides around the hot-button issue of gun control. Putting her career at risk, Chastain’s character as well as the movie blows a hole through the roof of D.C. Chastain, a two-time Oscar nominee for Zero Dark Thirty and The Help, also nails the role with a performance that dominates the action. The pic reteams her with Oscar-nominated helmer John Madden, who directed Chastain in the 2010 movie The Debt.

In the course of our conversation we talked politics, the nature of acting, being a movie star but staying true to your roots, the meteoric rise of her career after having five movies in the can awaiting their long-delayed releases, and much more.
