Emmy Award-winning actor Bill Murray is perhaps the most famous celebrity fan of the Chicago Cubs.

But Murray loves baseball, period. Ditto for his brother, actor and writer Brian Doyle-Murray. That’s likely why the siblings quietly took in Sunday’s Sunflower Showdown baseball game in Manhattan, Kansas.

Kansas State defeated KU 4-2 and won the weekend series at Tointon Family Stadium two games to one.

Like his brother, Doyle-Murray is a Cubs fan, but he also is a Royals supporter because of his wife, Tina, who was born in Emporia. She is a veterinarian who graduated from Kansas State in 2008 and has worked in Hollywood as a second director.

“I married into the Royals,” Doyle-Murray told me in 2015 while he was at Kauffman Stadium. “I have been following them very closely. I often have to flip a coin to see which recorded game we will watch, the Cubs or the Royals, because they are often on at the same time.”

Doyle-Murray also married into the K-State Wildcats. The Murrays were back in Kansas, perhaps visiting family and it was the perfect time to catch a ballgame.

KU broadcaster Brian Hanni snapped a selfie with Bill Murray and shared it on X.
