Man turns heads with controversial pick for Seattle's best restaurant: ‘That's not it'
Seattle’s hottest restaurant is … a gas station?
According to TikTok, that’s at least partly true. The Beacon Hill Shell Station, on Seattle’s southeast side, has long been a local favorite, but now it’s getting some nationwide bonafides.

Food influencer Ken Tran is at least partly responsible for that. The Seattle-based foodie posted a review of the gas station on his TikTok account, and it immediately went viral.
The clip highlights a few things that make the spot — which again, is a literal chain gas station — so special. For one, it’s famous for its fried catfish, which Tran claims is made fresh throughout the day.
The Shell station specializes in other fried foods as well, including chicken gizzards and garlic-flavored wings. Even more exciting is that the food is available all day and night.
There’s plenty of local fanfare around the eatery, with local news outlets praising its dishes. Seattle residents were quick to give their thoughts in Tran’s comment section too.
“Best hidden gem,” one user wrote.
“The catfish is fire,” another added.
“The secret is out,” another claimed.
Others were defensive of their city’s food scene, writing that the Shell station is not the best Seattle has to offer.
“Yeah. no. We have better restaurants in Seattle than gas station food. That’s not it,” one user wrote.
Regardless, plenty of new customers are learning about the spot. Tran’s video has racked up more than 100,000 views in just two days.
