Norman Lear and Brent Miller Partner with Juan Pablo Di Pace to Launch ‘For Another Time’ – Film News in Brief

Norman Lear and his producing partner Brent Miller of Act III Productions have partnered with Juan Pablo Di Pace of Momento Films to launch Di Pace’s LGBTQ+ romantic drama, “For Another Time,” which will shoot on location in Duino, Italy, and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Lear and Miller previously exec-produced Mexican film “Te Llevo Conmigo” (I Carry You With Me) and documentary “Rita Moreno: Just A Girl Who Decided to Go For It.”

Di Pace, who also stars in the film, based “For Another Time” on events in his own life, and he will co-direct with editor, Andres Pepe Estrada. Di Pace has appeared in “Fuller House,” “Mamma Mia! The Movie” and the upcoming “The Mattachine Family.”

In addition to Lear and Miller, executive producers include Massimiliano Milic, CEO of Terroir Films; and Kent Gibbons. Producers are Juan Pablo Di Pace; Kristen Carroll, founder and CEO of SpoPro/Spotlight Productions and Immaterial Media; Guillermo Escalona; and Margret Hiddleston and Stephanie Slack from Off Camera Entertainment.

“For Another Time” is a coming-of-age story that takes place in past and present timelines, following the a queer filmmaker, Matías (played by both Di Pace and a younger actor),who gets an unexpected invitation to revisit the family that forever influenced his past.

Production Designer Ida Random Will Receive the Art Directors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award

Production Designer Ida Random, best known for her work on “Rain Man,” “The Big Chill” and “Silverado,” will receive the Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) Lifetime Achievement Award at the 26th Annual ADG Awards.

The Awards ceremony returns to a live event on March 5, at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown in the Wilshire Grand Ballroom. The award will honor Random’s exceptional spectrum of distinctive designs for an array of films created over four decades. This is the third of four Lifetime Achievement Awards to be announced by the Art Directors Guild. The announcement was made today by ADG President Nelson Coates, ADG, and Awards Producer Michael Allen Glover, ADG.

“The Art Directors Guild is honored to name Ida Random the recipient of its Lifetime Achievement award for 2022. Random has worked as a prolific production designer with some of the most accomplished directors of our time ― James L. Brooks, Kevin Costner, Lawrence Kasdan, Barry Levinson, Justin Lin ― on iconic films that span a vast array of genres and styles. From the seminal western Silverado to the emotionally nuanced Rain Man, to the action franchise The Fast and the Furious, the astonishing range and scale of Ida Random’s trailblazing career can only be characterized as breathtaking,” said Mark Worthington, Art Directors Council Chair.

David Lynch Executive Produced ‘The Other Me’ Distributed by Gravitas

Gravitas Ventures, an Anthem Sports & Entertainment company, has acquired North American rights to Giga Agladze’s thriller, “The Other Me.” Starring Jim Sturgess, Rhona Mitra, Orla Brady and Executive produced by David Lynch, ‘The Other Me’ is slated for a day and date release on Feb. 4.

An architect is diagnosed with a rare eye disease, entering him into a surreal reality in which he sees people’s true motives. As the visions become intolerable, he falls for a mysterious woman and confronts the truth about his own identity.

“Gravitas is thrilled to be able to release “The Other Me,” which is an incredibly creative and nuanced mystery we know audiences will love,” said Brett Rogalsky, Gravitas Ventures Manager of Acquisitions.

Japan House Los Angeles Announces “MA in Japanese Film” Webinar With Ryūsuke Hamaguchi

JAPAN HOUSE Los Angeles announces “MA in Japanese Film: In Conversation with Film Director Ryūsuke Hamaguchi,” the final webinar in its Rethinking of MA Webinar Series. Award-winning filmmaker Hamaguchi – whose film “Drive My Car” is shortlisted for this year’s Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category – joins series hosts Professors Hitoshi Abe of UCLA and Ken Tadashi Oshima of University of Washington in a conversation exploring the role of MA in Japanese films. The online event takes place Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 5:00 – 6:15 p.m. PST.

‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’ Gets Imax Re-Release

“The Tragedy of Macbeth” is getting a re-release on Imax starting Wednesday in several markets, with tickets being sold through AMC. Cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel received an ASC nomination Tuesday for his work on the Apple Original Films/A24 production, which was shot in black and white. Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand star in the Joel Coen film.

Among the venues screening the film as Oscar voting kicks off are Los Angeles’ Burbank 30 and Century City 15, New York’s Lincoln Square 13, Atlanta’s North Point 12, Austin’s Barton Creek 14 and Boston’s Common 19. Other cities include Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, Dallas and Houston.

United States Artists Announces 2022 USA Fellows

United States Artists (USA) has announced its 2022 USA Fellows. This year, sixty-three artists across ten creative disciplines will receive unrestricted $50,000 cash awards. The award honors their creative accomplishments and supports their ongoing artistic and professional development. The 2022 USA Fellows class is the largest in the organization’s sixteen-year history. Locksmith Animation Options Marissa Meyer’s New York Times Best-Selling ‘The Lunar Chronicles’ Novels

Locksmith Animation today announced it has optioned Marissa Meyer’s best-selling The Lunar Chronicles series of novels including Cinder, 2012; Scarlet, 2013; Cress, 2014, and Winter 2015, published by Feiwel & Friends. The series, which focuses on a reimagining of classic fairy tale heroines, has been a sensation since the first volume was published on January 3, 2012.

The Lunar Chronicles is set in a futuristic world, beset by a pandemic, where Earth and its former colony Luna, exist in a perpetual state of unrest and tension. In Cinder, the first book, a teenage cyborg named Cinder (based on ‘Cinderella’) deals with her wicked step-mother, finds love and discovers secrets about herself. As the series continues, Cinder forges an alliance with Scarlet, a spaceship pilot; Cress, an imprisoned computer hacker, and Winter, a Lunar princess. Along with a diverse crew that includes a soldier, a criminal, and a royal guard, they must work together to rise up against the evil Queen Levana to save the country and possibly even the world

Doug Jones to Be Honored at MUAHS Awards

Award-winning actor Doug Jones has been named the recipient of the inaugural The Chair Award from the Annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards (MUAHS, IATSE Local 706).

The Chair Award will be presented by Actress Sonequa Martin-Green, Jones’ co-star on “Star Trek: Discovery.” The MUAHS awards gala, honoring outstanding achievements of both make-up artists and hairstylists in motion pictures, television, commercials and live theater, will be held on Feb. 19, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Jones was the romantic leading Amphibian Man in Guillermo del Toros’s “The Shape of Water.” Equally well-hidden, he played the dual roles of Pan and Pale Man in another Oscar-winning film – “Pan’s Labyrinth.” He was the Silver Surfer in “Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer” and the blue fish-man Abe Sapien in “Hellboy” and “Hellboy II: The Golden Army.”

Academy Launches ‘Seen’ Series Focusing on Latino Artists and Filmmakers

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the launch of the new interview series, “Seen.” Nick Barili, an Argentinean-American journalist, director, writer and producer, sits down for one-on-one conversations with some of the most influential artists and filmmakers with Latin-American and Spanish roots. The first season of the web series will include Academy members John Leguizamo, Eva Longoria and Oscar-nominee Edward James Olmos (“Stand and Deliver”), as they discuss their personal journeys, culture and breaking down barriers in filmmaking.

Leguizamo will lead the first episode as he explores his beloved New York City and maneuvering through the industry over his long career, also covering the topics of colorism and tokenism. The first episode is out now with the next scheduled to drop on Feb. 7.

New York Film Critic’s Circle Sets Ceremony for March 16

The New York Film Critics Circle announced the previously postponed 2022 awards ceremony has been rescheduled and will now take place March 16 at TAO Downtown.

The winners, announced at the end of last year, included “Drive My Car” for best film, Jane Campion for best director and Benedict Cumberbatch for best actor for “Power of the Dog,” and Lady Gaga for best actress for “House of Gucci.”
