Abu Dhabi's Yas Island set to host UFC 251

KEVIN IOLE: Well, it is official. UFC 251 will be on July 11 on Fight Island. It is at Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. I kind of speculated that that's where it might be. There was a report on Saturday out of Brazil that said that that's where it would be.

I was actually in Abu Dhabi on Yas Island for UFC 112 back in 2010. This is going to be an unbelievable show, and it will be the first of four fight cards in Abu Dhabi. July 11 is going to be UFC 251, the pay per view. It will start at the normal time in the US, 10:00 PM Eastern, 7:00 PM Pacific. Three title fights on that show. It is going to be headlined by Kamaru Usman versus Gilbert Burns for the welterweight championship. The comain event is going to be a rematch between Alexander Volkanovski versus Max Holloway for the featherweight championship. And then the third title fight is going to be the bantamweight championship between Petr Yan and José Aldo for the vacant title.

So those are your three fights on the main event. There's going to be two other fights on the card that I know of right now. Former champions Rose Namajunas and Jessica Andrade will fight as will Amanda Ribas and Paige VanZant. They are going to be on that card.

Dana White told me that Yas Island and Fight Island will be 10 miles from anybody else, that only fight-related people are going to be on this island. There's going to be full infrastructure-- restaurants, a hotel, training facilities, obviously the fight venue, but there will be nobody else on that island other than people associated with the UFC and the media covering it. So that is the news.

Also, Dana White announced today that UFC 252 in Las Vegas on August 15, a massive fight there, is going to be Daniel Cormier challenging Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight championship. This is their rubber match. Going to be a big one.

So a lot of news breaking today. Fight Island is in Abu Dhabi. First show July 11. Other shows in Abu Dhabi on July 15, July 18, and July 25.
