Abigail Spencer Says She Wants to Do Another ‘Timeless’ Movie Every Year or Two

“Timeless” fans are gonna keep trying to #SaveTimeless for as long as they can. And Abigail Spencer, who starred on NBC’s now-ended time-hopping drama is more than OK with that, as she’d like to keep making standalone “Timeless” films — like the one that aired as the series finale last December — every couple years.

“I think it would be so cool, cause I’ve never seen it really happen before,” Spencer, who stars on Hulu’s new revenge-thriller “Reprisal,” told TheWrap. “Like, how crazy would it be if every year or two we just get the band back together and we do a ‘Timeless’ movie? Because that show broke the mold. I’ve never seen a show get canceled twice and brought back twice and then end with a movie.”

“And also, we were making a feature film every episode. It is very difficult to do a period piece and do it at the level we were every time,” she continued. “I think it would be so fun, what a joy. I mean, we’re so lucky that people still want more of it. I am really blown away there are so many people who still love the show. And if everyone else is down, of course. If people want to see it and there is a place for it.”

Spencer starred on “Timeless” for its two-season run alongside Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett and Goran Višnjić. The series was canceled by NBC in Spring 2017, though that decision was quickly reversed following a wave of support from viewers from social media. It was canceled for a second time in June 2018. A month later, NBC ordered a two-hour movie to serve as the Sony Pictures TV-produced show’s series finale, which aired last December.

“My running joke is that we’re gonna be old with our walkers trying to get out of the time machine, but we can’t because of our walkers. We’ll just keep doing ‘Timeless’ movies till then,” Spencer said.

Spencer says doing one long period piece for “Timeless” set her up nicely to lead Hulu’s “Reprisal,” which launches all 10 of its Season 1 episodes on Friday, as it’s an “era ambiguous series.”

“It’s like if Tarantino’s ‘Kill Bill’ and David Lynch had a baby and that baby was out for revenge, that would be [my character] Doris and the conceit of the title,” she said. “And, you know, it’s hyper-noir, it’s femme fatale, it’s era ambiguous, it’s really visually stimulating. It’s also unlike anything I’ve ever seen. So I think you can use a lot of references, but it is creating a brand new world.”

“Reprisal” is described as a hyper-noir story that follows a relentless femme fatale who, after being left for dead, sets out to take revenge against her brother and his bombastic gang of gearheads.

Though Spencer happily compared it to “Kill Bill,” she actually wishes she had more projects to compare it to.

“I think it’s really interesting that the only other reference we have for my character and for ‘Reprisal’ is ‘Kill Bill,'” she said. “We need more women at the forefront of these stories and these shows. Because for that to be the only reference — which I get, it kind of is the only reference — means we have a lot of work to do.”

All 10 episodes of Season 1 of “Reprisal” launch Friday on Hulu.
