ABC Sets ‘Equity’ Female Wall Street Drama Based On Movie From Regina Corrado & Amy Pascal

EXCLUSIVE: The 2016 financial thriller feature Equity is headed to the small screen as a drama series, which has landed at ABC with a script commitment plus penalty. The adaptation hails from The Strain executive producer Regina Corrado and film and TV producer Amy Pascal. Sony TV’s TriStar Television is the studio.

Written by Corrado, Equity is set in the cutthroat world of investment banking. It centers on Naomi Bishop — played in the movie by Anna Gunn — a Wall Street banker who is navigating a world where big money and high-power reign, and women have yet to break the glass ceiling. With an aggressive prosecutor on her heels, and a strained relationship with an ambitious junior executive, Naomi is forced to reexamine the male dominated world in which she lives.

Corrado executive produces with Pascal Pictures’ Amy Pascal and Rachel O’Connor and the movie’s producers Alysia Reiner and Sarah Megan Thomas.

Equity stood out when it premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Written, directed and produced by an all-female team, Equity featured main players who were all women while being set in a world heavily dominated by men, Wall Street. The auspices behind the TV series adaptation also are all female.

The film, directed by Meera Menon and written by Amy Fox, was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics shortly before its Sundance premiere and was released this past summer to solid reviews. (watch a trailer below)

The series adaptation was developed with Corrado at TriStar TV, which has female-centered shows as one of its focus areas. (TriStar’s first series since the label’s revival is Amazon’s upcoming drama Good Girls Revolt, about young women working for a news program in the 1960s who fight against sexual discrimination.) It was TriStar TV head Suzanne Patmore-Gibbs who brought the project to Sony-based Pascal Pictures.

Corrado is coming off a tw0-year stint as executive producer on FX’s The Strain, working alongside executive producer/showrunner Carlton Cuse who also recruited her as a writer-producer on his A&E drama series The Returned. Corrado, whose resume is dominated by testosterone-heavy series, started her career on David Milch’s Deadwood and John Fran Cincinnati and also worked on FX’s Sons of Anarchy for four seasons. She is repped by WME and Zero Gravity Management.

Also at ABC, Pascal Pictures and Sony TV have multi-generational soap American Heritage, from writer Taylor Hamra, which too has a script commitment plus penalty..

Reiner and Thomas of Broad Street Pictures are reped by CAA, which also handled the sale of the movie to Sony Pictures Classic.
