ABC Renews ‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’ Deal With Dick Clark Productions

ABC will keep rocking in the new year through the end of the 2020s.

The network has renewed its deal with Dick Clark Productions for the annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve special. The new deal will keep the show, hosted by Ryan Seacrest, in its longtime home through 2029. The current deal was due to end in 2024.

New Year’s Rockin’ Eve is the longest-running New Year’s Eve TV special, dating back to 1972. It aired on NBC for its first two years before moving to ABC in 1974, where it’s been ever since. It’s also by far the most watched of any New Year’s Eve programming on broadcast and cable networks; last year’s show averaged 13.8 million viewers for its late-night block (it also runs in primetime), peaking at just under 18 million at midnight ET.

Seacrest joined New Year’s Rockin’ Eve as a co-host in 2006 after Clark, who created the show and was its host for several decades, cut back on his duties following a stroke. Seacrest took over as the primary host a year later, and Clark made appearances on the broadcast until his death in 2012.

The 2023-into-2024 edition of New Year’s Rockin’ Eve will go off as usual starting at 8 p.m. Dec. 31. Co-hosts and performers are yet to be announced.

Dick Clark Productions is owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Penske Media Corporation and Eldridge that also owns The Hollywood Reporter.
