ABC Gives 'American Housewife' and 'Bless This Mess' Full Seasons

The comedies will now have 21 and 19 episodes respectively

It's good news for American Housewife and Bless This Mess! The fourth season and second season comedies have scored additional episodes, bringing their orders up to 21 and 19 episodes.

American Housewife, which stars Katy Mixon and Diedrich Bader, is set in the wealthy town of Westport, Connecticut where everyone is fit, beautiful and perfect. Except for the Ottos. Katie (played by Mixon) and Greg (Bader) Otto, along with their three children, are far from perfect and beautifully flawed in their own ways.

ABC President Karey Burke issued the following statement: "Sarah Dunn created something special with the hit comedy American Housewife, and the Otto family continues to entertain on a level that is relatable and hilarious. As Katie Otto, Katy Mixon delivers a welcome comedic relief with her acerbic take on life."

The additional order will bring the show to 97 episodes in total. It serves as a solid anchor for ABC's Friday block.

Bless this Mess, which stars Lake Bell (who also co-created the show with Liz Meriwether of New Girl) and Dax Sheperd, centers on newlyweds who change their lives, moving from New York City to rural Nebraska. They quickly learn that the "simple life" isn't as simple as they hoped. They must now face unexpected challenges head-on in their new lives as farmers.

On the show and its additional order, Karey Burke issued the following: "Bless This Mess has quickly become a fan favorite, due in large part to the expert wit of co-creators Lake Bell and Elizabeth Meriwether, and our incredibly talented and charismatic cast. This series exquisitely captures a witty and warm look into the close-knit communities of America's heartland, and we are so excited to deliver more stories from 'Bucksnort' to the masses."

Well done to two very deserving shows. You can catch American Housewife on ABC on Fridays at 8. Bless This Mess airs on ABC on Tuesdays at 8:30.

This is all much better news than that delivered to one of ABC's other comedy series Fresh Off the Boat. Fresh Off the Boat got the official ax earlier this week and will end its run after the current season. More information on that controversy, namely surrounding its leading actress, Constance Wu, can be found here.
