Aaron Tveit and his girlfriend Ericka Hunter went from costars to partners.

The Tony winner and dancer first sparked dating rumors when they starred in Broadway’s Moulin Rouge! but didn’t go public with their relationship until years later.

Though Tveit has starred opposite many leading ladies on the screen and stage over the years — including Blake Lively on Gossip Girl and recently Sutton Foster in Sweeney Todd — the actor has been more private about his real-life romances.

"At the end of the day, I just don't see why anyone would be interested in what I do outside my work,” the actor previously told New York Theater Guide about why he doesn’t overshare on social media.

That being said, he has given several glimpses of his relationship with Hunter since they started dating, including sweet birthday tributes and taking her as his date to the 2021 Tony Awards, where he took home best performance by an actor in a leading role in a musical for Moulin Rouge!.

From her career background to what projects she’s starred in with Tveit, here’s everything to know about Hunter.

She’s Canadian

Hunter is originally from Ottawa, Canada, where she got involved in the arts at a young age, acting in local theater productions and attending an arts-based high school.

Her love for performing clearly runs in her family as her older sister Vanessa started dancing at the age of 3 and her younger brother Warren Yang was an avid gymnast. Like Hunter, her brother is also a Broadway actor, having previously appeared in King Kong and Miss Saigon; he shared the stage with his sister in the latter.

“It was a very special time for me to share that with my sister,” Yang told Playbill of working with his sister in the ensemble. “We’ve always been close, but our professions never crossed until that moment. Broadway, theater, performing was her world — I was lucky to have her guidance during that time.”

She got her start as a Radio City Rockette

At age 17, Hunter auditioned for the Radio City Rockettes, which ended up being her big break in the industry. “I went for the experience,” Hunter told Playbill, “and ended up with my first professional job.”

After joining the Toronto company of the Lion King and being a featured dancer in the ABC/Disney movie The Music Man, Hunter got another big break at age 20 as she made her Broadway debut in the original revival cast of Flower Drum Song.

She met Aaron Tveit while working on Moulin Rouge!

Since her Broadway debut, she has appeared in a variety of shows, including 42nd Street, Doctor Zhivago, American Psycho, Rock of Ages, Miss Saigon and Moulin Rouge!.

While performing in the ensemble for Broadway’s Moulin Rouge!, Hunter met and connected with Tveit, who was starring as Christian. The couple was first linked in July 2019, when they were seen cuddling up for photos during the show’s opening night party. However, they didn’t go public with their romance until years later when Tveit wished her a happy birthday in May 2021.

“My favorite picture of you. My favorite smile,” he captioned a photo of Hunter laughing as he gave her a kiss on the cheek. “Happy Birthday @erickahunter I love you!”

After going Instagram official in May 2021, the two made their red carpet debut as a couple in September 2021 at the Tony Awards, where Tveit was up for (and eventually won) best performance by an actor in a leading role in a musical for Moulin Rouge!.

“So proud of our show…and especially proud of my man ❤️” Hunter captioned a collection of photos of her and Tveit at the event. Tveit also gave Hunter a shoutout during his speech, thanking her for her “love and support and always putting up with me.”

Ahead of the award show, Tveit revealed to POPSUGAR that Hunter gave him a special gift to celebrate his first Tony nomination. “I got a wonderful piece of jewelry from my girlfriend in the fall when I got nominated for a Tony Award. It was very, very meaningful,” he told the publication.

She appeared on Schmigadoon! with Aaron Tveit

In addition to sharing the stage with Tveit, Hunter also shared the screen with him as a core dancer for the Apple TV+ series Schmigadoon!. She appeared in the first season and is a featured dancer in the second season as well.

Hunter has appeared on several other shows through the years, including Smash, Mozart In The Jungle, Modern Love and Katy Keene.
