Aaron Murray says pregame appearance at Georgia moved because of Mississippi State pick
Did former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray’s scheduled appearance at Sanford Stadium before Saturday’s game vs. Mississippi State not happen because of a fear of booing?
Murray, was scheduled to appear with Verron Haynes and “call the dogs” in Georgia’s traditional pregame ceremony Saturday night. The former QB, now an analyst with CBS Sports Network, picked Mississippi State to win on his podcast last week.
According to Murray, Georgia was a bit wary of that prediction. From SEC Country, which transcribed his podcast remarks:
“We think we might need to have you postpone you calling the Dawgs for another opportunity. We’re going to let Verron do it on his own,” Murray said he was told. “So I was like, ‘Listen, if you guys think it’s the best, then that’s fine with me. A little disappointed. But the last thing we wanted as a headline was, ‘Aaron Murray gets booed calling the Dawgs.’ Even it was a couple people you know the paper was going to pick it up.”
If this went as Murray said it did, that’s hilarious. Georgia, at 3-0 entering Saturday’s game, was afraid of a little booing? Georgia fans would be that worried about a podcast prediction? We have to think there were some UGA fans thought Mississippi State was going to win just to try to initiate a reverse jinx.
As you likely know, the game turned out to be a blowout in Georgia favor. The Bulldogs from the SEC East scored 17 third-quarter points on the way to a 31-3 win.
Murray was still at the game and appeared with other former players on the field after the first quarter. A Georgia spokesperson said Murray had a “had a conversation with a representative of the Athletic Association” and the QB “indicated he did not want to be a distraction.”
