Aaron Judge's latest home run breaks 96-year-old record held by Babe Ruth
New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge made history yet again during Saturday’s 2-1 win against the Toronto Blue Jays.
After breaking Mark McGwire’s rookie home run record on Monday, Judge toppled another record when he launched his 52nd home run of the season.

The 484-foot blast was Judge’s 33rd of the season at Yankee Stadium, which broke a Babe Ruth record that stood for 96 years.

Ruth’s Yankees played at the Polo Grounds in 1921. Obviously, it was a much different ballpark and a much different era, but just the fact we’re talking about a current player surpassing anything done by Babe Ruth is pretty special. Besides that, many of Ruth’s home runs then and many of Judge’s now would be home runs in any ballpark on the planet during any time period.

Judge also equaled Mickey Mantle for the eighth-most homers hit by a Yankee in any single season. That’s some pretty exceptional company too. With accolades like that, it’s no wonder fans were chanting MVP at Judge every chance they got on Saturday.
Judge is definitely among the front runners. He even drew praise from Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman, who served up Saturday’s homer.

It’s possible Gary Sanchez would be in the MVP discussion too if he’d been healthy the entire season. As it is, he’s up to 33 homers this season, which combined with Judge’s homers set another new mark.
