A Look Back at Mischa Barton’s Personal Struggles

Mischa Barton catapulted to stardom at the age of 17 playing Marissa Cooper on the hit show The O.C. from 2003 to 2006.

Reflecting back on the heyday of her fame, Barton told People magazine, “We thought, ‘Work hard, play hard.’ There were a lot of enablers around, people to fly you around and to make it all possible.”

“It was a train I could not get off of,” she added. “When you’re young, you can do it, but after a while, it’s going to come crashing down on you.”

In 2009, the actress’s family staged an intervention after she passed out from prescription Xanax and threatened to take her life.

Recently, just one day after celebrating her 31st birthday, Barton voluntarily checked herself into a hospital for a mental health evaluation after police and firefighters were summoned to her house after reports of a possible overdose or suicide attempt.

Take a look back at some of Mischa Barton’s history of personal struggles in the video above.
