NFL players happy to see LeBron James in Los Angeles

Like most sports fans, NFL players were following the LeBron James free-agency situation and had an opinion on King James’ decision to sign a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.

And like many of us, they took to social media to share their thoughts.

Rams welcome James to L.A.

The Los Angeles Rams did a little bit of recruiting before James announced his decision and welcomed him to the city once news broke. On Friday, the team posted a tweet with James, one of his sons and Rams owner Stan Kroenke on the field before a Rams game.

Then on Sunday night, they were quick to respond:

“Welcome to Los Angeles!,” the Rams wrote. “See you back at the Coliseum this fall! #LABron”

When Cincinnati Bengals running back Tra Carson posted, “Time to get my laker gear, Rams star running back Todd Gurley responded, “You mean our Lakers gear,” so clearly he’s all aboard the LeBron-to-Lakers train.

Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster tweeted a picture of him with James in March, and went back to that photo Sunday night.

“This is what we talked about!!!,” Smith-Schuster wrote, though it’s unclear whether that means the young Pittsburgh star knew nearly four months ago James was headed for Los Angeles.

Smith-Schuster’s teammate Le’Veon Bell is a LeBron fan first and foremost, as he tweeted, “I never in a million years thought I would ever be a Lakers fan…welp.” In a subsequent tweet he said, “Call me a bandwagon all y’all want…where LeBron goes, I GO!”

But Denver Broncos cornerback Chris Harris, who was a Lakers fan before Sunday night’s news might not be too keen on so many new Lakers “fans,” as he posted, “No bandwagon fans allowed.”

He might be fighting a losing battle.

Browns players offer to step in

In Cleveland, the city James is leaving behind for the second time, several Browns players have offered to step in and be the city’s star.

Pass-rusher Myles Garrett, the team’s No. 1 overall pick last year, tweeted to James, “if you don’t want to take your throne with you, I’ll take it…” and two of his teammates on defense, Christian Kirksey and Damarious Randall, wrote similar.

“Time for me to take the throne!,” said Kirksey, who also proclaimed last month that the Browns will be in the playoffs this season.

And Randall wrote, “Time to take over the city… #WeUpNext #DawgPound.”

Given that the Browns were a combined 1-31 over the past two seasons, hitting .500 this year would be a major achievement.
