915 Day celebration, 16 de septiembre event among things to do in El Paso
El Pasoans can kick off their weekend with fun ways to celebrate life in El Paso and Hispanic Heritage.
The owner of Chuco Relic is excited to celebrate the Chuco Relic 915 Day family event. You'll surely get a good deal on some T-shirts and find unique El Paso-inspired items.
The Chihuahuas baseball season continues, but their exciting fireworks show will end with more this weekend.
And if you're interested in guns, there is a gun show this weekend at the El Maida Shrine Temple.
Here's a closer look into the weekend and later on this fall.
915 Chuco Market
Chuco Relic, the proud originator of 915 Day, invites the public to the annual Chuco Relic 915 Day family event from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at 3750 Gateway Blvd. East. The first 200 attendees will receive a free 915 t-shirt to celebrate the event. There will be live band performances, more than 20 local vendors, various merchants, family-friendly activities and all tees for $9.15.
Last fireworks of El Paso Chihuahuas season
The El Paso Chihuahuas play the Albuquerque Isotopes at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Southwest University Park, Downtown. It will be the last night to see fireworks after the game. Tickets: bit.ly/3PHqlmN
Fall Gun Show
The El Maida Shrine Temple will be the place for the Fall Gun Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 6331 Alabama St. Free entry with purchase of NRA membership at the door.
Apple Festival
The Nichols Ranch, at 236 Cottonwood Canyon, in La Luz, New Mexico, is gearing up for its Apple Festival, Sept. 30-Oct. 1. La Luz is around 95 miles from El Paso. Times will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 30 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 1. Tickets are $10 and children under 12 are free. Purchase tickets online at nicholsranchandorchards.com.

Mexican Consulate plans tribute to Juan Gabriel as part of 16 de septiembre
The Mexican Consulate and Destination El Paso are collaborating with a special 213th anniversary of Mexico's Independence on Friday, Sept. 15 at the El Paso convention center. The grito will be at 7:45 p.m. Admission will be free.
The special celebration will be from 5 to 10 p.m. and feature a variety of regional talent as well as food and beverage vendors. Entertainment will include Ballet Folklorico Camino Real, Mariachi Los Arrieros, La Conquistadora Banda y Conquistadora Norteño Banda and Grupo Status performing a tribute to Juan Gabriel.
Viva! Mexico at The Manor
The Manor at Eleven will have a Viva Mexico: Grito celebration at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 at 1011 N. Mesa St. The evening will include a traditional Mexican cuisine menu, mariachis, drink specials and dancing. Reserved tickets are $20, plus fees, available at Eventbrite.com.

Western Playland has Kumbiapalooza
Western Playland will have its first Kumbiapalooza concert, featuring DJ Kane, Sept. 23. Kane is the ex-vocalist of the original Kumbia Kings and will be singing all the Kumbia Kings hits. Special guests Erick Y Su Grupo Massore and Los Gran Reyes will also perform.
The event will feature live music, food, a beer garden, and family fun. Gates will open at 5 p.m.; the show will start at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online for only $34.95, which includes all the rides. https://orders.westernplayland.com
Cory Marks at Rockhouse Bar & Grill
Breakout Canadian country-rock star Cory Marks will stop in the U.S. this fall and perform a show on Sept. 30 at The Rockhouse Bar & Grill, 9828 Montana Ave. Marks has a new single, "Snowbirds," inspired by the Snowbirds air demonstration team and his passion for flying. Watch the music video featuring footage from his flight with the Snowbirds on Youtube. The track marked the first new music since 2022.
Chili Cookoff
The Pod of the Pass El Paso/Las Cruces Chili Appreciation Society will have a chili cookoff from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sept. 24 at the VFW Post 8550, 4714 Titanic Ave. $5 gets you a chance to taste all the chilis. A silent auction will take place.
Fall Flora Fest
The Centennial Museum and Chihuahuan Desert Gardens will have a fall FloraFest sale at 9 a.m. Oct. 7 outside the museum. El Pasoans can purchase native plants and trees suited for a desert landscape.
