Before there was Jaime and Cersei Lannister, there was Brandon and Brenda Walsh.

Shannen Doherty welcomed former Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star Jason Priestley to the Jan. 22 episode of her Let’s Be Clear podcast for an honest look back at the years they spent playing the Walsh twins, and no topic was off limits — from Doherty’s high-profile firing to that flop reboot on Fox a few years back.

We weren’t, however, expecting to hear Doherty and Priestley discuss the “sexual undertone” of their characters’ relationship. Don’t get it twisted, nothing untoward ever actually happened between the Walsh siblings on screen, but the show’s suggestive marketing apparently left room for speculation.

“Brenda and Brandon were always so interesting, because we had an interesting relationship,” Doherty said, recalling old pictures that fans have brought her to sign at conventions, including a particularly “bizarre” image of Doherty straddling Priestley from a Rolling Stone photoshoot. “There was this sexual undertone of Brenda and Brandon that, to this day, is hysterical.”

Priestley noted that the twins’ “Jack and Jill bathroom” probably didn’t help: “There were a lot of bizarre things that happened with us.”

Doherty and Priestley co-starred on the Aaron Spelling soap from 1990 to 1994, until Doherty was let go for constantly being late to set. The two reunited in 2019 for BH90210, an incredibly short-lived reboot starring the show’s original cast as heightened versions of their real-life selves.

Priestley appeared on the podcast to promote his starring role on Wild Cards, which premiered on The CW last week. Doherty’s podcast, which debuted in December with a two-part discussion about Charmed with Holly Marie-Combs, drops new episodes every Monday.
