9 spots in the OKC metro area where you can be dazzled by July Fourth fireworks

It just wouldn't be the Fourth of July without sparkling fireworks to dazzle the eyes.

Fortunately, folks in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area have several options if they want to catch a scintillating display of airborne pyrotechnics on or around July 4.

Here are 9 options in the OKC area where Independence Day celebrants can witness the rockets' red glare and the (decorative) bombs bursting in air:

1. Midwest City's Tribute to Liberty 

When and where: 7 to 10 p.m. July 4 at Joe B. Barnes Regional Park, 8700 E Reno Ave.

The event features family-friendly fun, food trucks, live music and fireworks.

2. Stars & Stripes River Festival Block Party

When and where: 11 a.m. to dusk July 1, Boathouse District, 800 Riversport Drive.

The Stars & Stripes River Festival blasted off June 24 with the Stars & Stripes River Regatta, and the festivities continue this weekend with the Stars & Stripes Block Party. This year's block party overlaps with Navy Week in Oklahoma City, so it will include a flight deck experience, warrior challenge, ordnance disposal, demonstrations by the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Drill Team and live music from the Navy Band Southeast.

Other festivities include Thunder Dock Diving Dogs exhibitions, the movie "Top Gun: Maverick" playing on the Jumbotron and fireworks at 9 p.m. Admission is free; parking is $10 with proceeds benefiting Riversport OKC nonprofit programs.

3. Norman's Fourth Fest

When and where: 5 to 10 p.m. July 4, Reaves Park, 2501 Jenkins Ave.

Attractions include food trucks, family-friendly yard games, an area selling adult beverages and live music by Hook and the Vinyl Stripes, culminating in a fireworks show at dusk.

4. Red, White & Boom!

When and where: 8:30 p.m. July 3, Scissortail Park, 300 SW 7.

For the third year, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic performs its free annual Independence Day concert at Scissortail Park, and the patriotric music will be followed by fireworks illuminating the downtown OKC skyline at about 10 p.m. This year's program features vocalists J. Warren Mitchell and Julianne Reynolds.

5. Moore's Celebration in the Heartland

When and where: 2 to 10 p.m. July 4, Buck Thomas Park, 1903 NE 12.

Inflatables, helicopter rides, children's activities, food trucks and live music by Like Before, Jason Scott & The High Heat and Shiloh Steel will lead up to the fireworks show set to music about 9:45 p.m. 

6. Yukon Freedom Fest

When and where: 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. July 3 and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. July 4, Chisholm Trail Park, 500 W Vandament, and City Park, 2200 S Holly Ave.

The free two-day celebration includes a car show, children's parade, the Cherry Bomb Youth Triathlon, hot dog eating contest, free swimming, food trucks and more. The Hi-Fi Hillbillies and Irv Wagner's Concert Band will play July 3, while Super Freak and the OKC Philharmonic will perform July 4. Plus, fireworks shows will blast off at 10 p.m. both days. 

7. Bethany Freedom Fest 

When and where: 10 a.m. July 1, downtown Bethany and Eldon Lyon Park.

The event starts with a parade marching at 10 a.m. on historic Route 66 from Southern Nazarene University, 6729 NW 39 Expressway, to Eldon Lyon Park, 7400 NW 36.

The celebration will continue with Street Fest, including a car show, entertainment and vendors, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Bethany. At 9:55 p.m., fireworks will light up Eldon Lyon Park, which will open at 7 p.m. and boast bouncy houses, food trucks and a DJ.

8. Edmond's LibertyFest

When and where: Various events and venues.

Edmond's Independence Day extravaganza includes the Liberty Sprint at 8:15 a.m. July 4 in downtown and a big parade at 9 a.m. July 4 in downtown. What's billed as the metro area's largest fireworks display blasts off at 9:30 p.m. July 4 at Hafer Park, 1034 S Bryant.

9. OKC Dodgers July 4 game and fireworks

When and where: 7:05 p.m. July 4, Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, 2 S Mickey Mantle Drive.

What's more American than baseball on the Fourth of July? Baseball followed by fireworks, of course. The OKC Dodgers start a six-game home stand against the Albuquerque Isotopes on July 4, and the festivities will include a postgame fireworks show.

A fireworks display also is planned after the Dodgers' 7:05 p.m. July 7 game vs. the visiting Isotopes.
