‘9-1-1’ and ‘Lone Star’ Renewed at Fox

Fox has renewed “9-1-1” for Season 5 and its sister show “9-1-1: Lone Star” for Season 3. The “9-1-1” mothership will anchor Monday nights in the fall, while its spinoff will premiere midseason. The franchise, a major cornerstone and rating powerhouse for Fox, hails from creators and executive producers Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear.

“9-1-1: Lone Star” stars “Parks and Recreation” alum Rob Lowe, Liv Tyler, Ronen Rubinstein, Sierra Aylina McClain, Jim Parrack, Natacha Karam, Brian Michael Smith, Rafael Silva, Julian Works, Brianna Baker and Mark Elias. Per the logline, the spinoff follows a sophisticated New York fireman (Lowe) who, along with his son (Rubinstein), re-locates to Austin, Texas, and must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in his own life. Murphy, Falchuk, and Minear serve in the same roles. Martin Woodall, Buecker, Gray, and Bassett are also executive producers along with Rashad Raisani. Buecker directed the premiere and additional episodes.

“9-1-1” stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi, Rockmond Dunbar, Corinne Massiah, Marcanthonee Reis, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Ryan Guzman. Murphy, Falchuk, and Minear created the series and serve as executive producers, with Minear serving as showrunner. Alexis Martin Woodall, Bradley Buecker, Bassett, Krause, John J. Gray, and Kristen Reidel also serve as executive producers. Brad Buecker directed the series premiere and continues to direct episodes of the series. It will air Mondays this fall from 8 to 9 p.m. Eastern Time.

Both shows are produced by 20th Century Fox Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision.

The greenlights were announced on Monday by Charlie Collier, CEO of Fox Entertainment at its virtual Upfront Presentation. In addition to “9-1-1” and “9-1-1: Lone Star” heading back to the network, Fox is adding four new dramas, two new comedies, four new unscripted series and one new animated comedy to its primetime slate. Its free AVOD streaming service, Tubi, is adding 140+ hours of original programming to its library for the 2021-2022 television season that includes titles from Bento Box Entertainment and Fox Alternative Entertainment. Two of the all-new dramas announced include “The Big Leap” from creator and executive producer Liz Heldens (“Friday Night Lights”) and “Our Kind of People” from executive producer Lee Daniels (“Empire,” “The United States vs. Billie Holiday”).
