Media and music company 88rising is throwing its first Moonrise Gala honoring global Asian talent. The inaugural event will honor entertainer, entrepreneur and fashion icon Jackson Wang; Indonesian singer-songwriter and producer NIKI; Filipino-American dance-pop singer Jocelyn Enriquez; hip-hop turntablists group Invisibl Skratch Piklz; and Destin Daniel Cretton, the American filmmaker behind Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

“88rising started as a vision, an attempt to build a home on the internet for Asian creatives because there was nothing out there at the time,” said 88rising founder and CEO Sean Miyashiro in a release. “With 88rising’s inaugural Moonrise Gala, we continue to ride on the momentum we’ve built over the years.”

Launching this Lunar New Year tradition, the 2024 gala will take place on Feb. 17 at Milk Studios in Los Angeles. The Moonrise Gala will feature performances like 88rising’s musical experiences, such as the Head in the Clouds music and arts festivals that take place in Los Angeles, New York, Jakarta, Manila and China.

Honorees will receive the inaugural Moonrise Medal, a bespoke creation crafted by NYC-based jewelry line Anna Kikue, which celebrates the new year. Organizers wish the medal to serve as “an embodiment of the 88rising brand, functioning as both a family crest and a living legacy for prosperity.”

The gala will begin at 6 p.m. on Feb. 17 with a red carpet, and gives attendees the chance to explore the venue, which features visuals developed by K2 World, a creative and event production agency whose work include the Book of Hov Exhibition in Brooklyn and Kering Generation Award in Shanghai.
