82-Year-Old Shocks ‘AGT’ Judges With Hardcore Performance

On America’s Got Talent, 82-year-old John Hetlinger performed Drowning Pool’s 2001 song “Bodies.” The tune is screaming heavy metal, so it was quite a shock as Hetlinger’s appearance was not that of a heavy metal headbanger.

Hetlinger is a retired Navy pilot and aerospace engineer who once repaired the Hubble Space Telescope. He retired 15 years ago, and while on a cruise he was introduced to karaoke, which he has become quite fond of. Not so surprisingly, “Bodies” is one of his go-to performance pieces, and you could tell by the audience’s reaction, it’s usually well received.

After the performance, Howie Mandel asked Hetlinger, “Is there a mosh pit where you work?” Heltinger replied, “No, but there’s a lot of beer.”

All the judges except Heidi Klum voted to move Hetlinger on to the next round. As for his chance of being famous, Hetlinger said, “If I were voted the next great act in America, I would accept that very willingly.”

America’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
