‘Nashville’ Grieves the Loss of Rayna Jaymes

After last week’s heartbreaking episode in which the lead character, Rayna Jaymes, died, the rest of the characters on Nashville were left to try to put their lives back together and figure out who is going to become the legal guardian of Rayna’s daughters.

While it seemed logical for Deacon to remain their father, their incarcerated former father Teddy was temporarily released from prison for bereavement and was vying for the role. This put the family on edge as sides were taken, leaving Maddie and Daphne to make the tough decision of who should be their guardian.

Even though Deacon wanted to punch Teddy, instead he told the girls’ former father, “We gotta put an end to this, for their sake. Why don’t you go ahead and be their guardian.”

At the end of the episode, Deacon, Daphne, and Maddie got a standing ovation after singing Rayna’s popular song, “Sanctuary.” And Teddy was so moved that he told Deacon, “You’re a good father, and truth is I’m gonna be gone for a while and I’d be obliged if you’d watch over them, be their guardian for now and maybe when I get back we can work something out together.”

While the episode started with heartbreak, it ended on a positive note with the family reconciling and coming back together.

Nashville airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on CMT.
