These 81 NJ restaurants win Wine Spectators Restaurant Awards
New Jersey restaurants and chefs may be shut out of the James Beard awards year after year — this year, not one New Jersey spot or person was even nominated — but when it comes to wines in our restaurants, New Jersey has reason to crack open the Champagne.
This year, 81 New Jersey restaurants won Wine Spectator's Restaurant Awards, which honor the world's best restaurants for wine. Like the Olympics, the awards are divided into three levels: Award of Excellence (think of it as a bronze medal), Best Award of Excellence (silver medal) and Grand Award (gold!).

And though, this year no new restaurant has gotten the Grand Award — "It's really difficult to get a Grand Award," said spokesperson Julia Forschino — two New Jersey restaurants have held onto the top award: The Pluckemin Inn in Bedminster (a recipient since 2011) and Restaurant Latour in the Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg (since 2006). (This reporter named Susanne Wagner, Latour's wine director, one of New Jersey's most talented women in the food and wine industry.)
The Pluckemin Inn and Restaurant Latour are among the 93 restaurants across the world that received the Grand Award this year.
