8 true crime documentaries streaming this November
Halloween may be over, but scary stories are just getting started. In fact, some of the scariest stories aren’t urban legends — they’re real events.
True crime entertainment is becoming increasingly more prevalent on streaming services, podcast platforms and more. This can be great news for those who want to raise awareness of unsolved crimes or teach people about crime prevention, but it can also be painful for those who are asked to relive traumatic events in order to share these stories.
Although consuming true crime entertainment can be fun, like solving a puzzle, it’s important to remember that true crime by definition centers on real people. Try to focus on media that centers on victims and investigators rather than glorifying perpetrators, and stay respectful of those whose stories are being told.

1. ‘The Lost Women of Highway 20’

Release date: Nov. 5.
Starring Octavia Spencer, this three-part series explores the abductions, assaults and murders that occurred along a stretch of Highway 20 in Oregon from the late 1970s to early 1990s.
2. ‘FBI True’
Where to watch: Paramount+.
Release date: Nov. 7.
Each episode of this docuseries focuses on a different high-profile case investigated by the FBI and includes interviews from the agents that helped solve them.
3. ‘Cyberbunker: The Criminal Underworld’
Where to watch: Netflix.
Release date: Nov. 8.
Remember, not all true crime involves murder. This series investigates a group of hackers who operated out of a NATO bunker in a quaint German village.
4. ‘FEDS’
Where to watch: Max.
Release date: Nov. 8.
This Investigation Discovery show uncovers what it takes to work in the FBI.
5. ‘How To Become a Mob Boss’
Where to watch: Netflix.
Release date: Nov. 14.
This series follows “How to Become a Cult Leader” and “How to Become a Tyrant,” two successful Netflix docuseries. From Al Capone to John Gotti, this series explores infamous mob bosses, their crimes and their falls from grace.
6. ‘To Catch a Smuggler,’ Season 6
Where to watch: Hulu.
Release date: Nov. 15.
Getting flagged by TSA when you’re late for your flight can be annoying, but this series will make you grateful for them. “To Catch a Smuggler” follows Homeland Security officers as they try to prevent smugglers from bringing contraband into the United States.
7. ‘Bad Surgeon’
Where to watch: Netflix.
Release date: Nov. 29
Dr. Paolo Macchiarini claimed his new stem cell technology had revolutionized windpipe transplants, but several of his patients died. This series follow his research, surgeries and eventual arrest.
8. ‘Wild Crime,’ Season 3
Where to watch: Hulu.
Release date: Nov. 30.
This series focuses on crime that occurs in some of the most beautiful places America has to offer: our national parks. From thefts to murders, this series explores a number of sinister events that will have you looking over your shoulder next time you go backpacking.
