8 Memphis food events you shouldn't miss, from Black Restaurant Week to wine tastings
Mark your calendars! There are several Memphis food events that need to be on your calendar for the month of March.
Learn all about wine at MoSH's annual Science of Wine event or at one restaurant's monthly wine class or at another's special wine dinner. Explore Memphis' vibrant Black-owned restaurant scene during Memphis' annual Black Restaurant Week. Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with Irish fare at two Memphis-area restaurants. There is even a food truck festival happening in March.
Here are eight events you shouldn't miss.
MoSH Science of Wine
The Museum of Science & History (MoSH) will host its annual Science of Wine event on March 8.
This 21+ event offers wine and food pairings with a side of science. Enjoy food from local restaurants and wines from vineyards from around the country while you discover which wines pair best with which foods, and why. While you sip, learn some of the fundamental components of the wines, including the importance of acidity, fermentation, yeast, carbon dioxide, alcohol, sugar and tannins.
The event includes demos and other fun wine-related activities. All attendees receive a commemorative wine glass. Proceeds will be used to support MoSH’s programs and activities for area students.
When: 6:30-9 p.m. March 8. VIP entry is at 6 p.m.

LifeDoc Health's Healthier Memphis Gala
11 of Memphis’ top chefs are coming together to cook at LifeDoc’s Second Annual Healthier Memphis Gala on March 8 at Memphis Botanic Garden.
Founded in 2009, healthcare nonprofit LifeDoc’s works to improve patient outcomes, reduce medical expenses from health complications and build healthier communities by preventing diabetes and obesity through healthcare and research.
Of the 20,000 patients LifeDoc health currently serves, 56% are children and adolescents. It has been LifeDoc's goal to reach these children earlier, before they develop obesity, prediabetes or diabetes and impact the progression of cardiovascular disease in the community.
Since 2019, to provide more accessible preventive care, LifeDoc has partnered with Green Dot Public Schools and developed School Based Health Centers. Fundraising efforts from the gala will go toward supporting and expanding the efforts to provide healthcare services in those School Based Health Centers.

Memphis Black Restaurant Week
The ninth annual Memphis Black Restaurant Week is March 17-23. This dining week is an opportunity for Black-owned restaurants to offer dining deals to bring in new customers and raise awareness.
The list of restaurants is eclectic and diverse in menu offerings and parts of town. The common denominator is that they are all minority-owned establishments.
The week culminates with the annual Soulful Food Truck Festival on March 24.

Soulful Food Truck Festival
The culminating event of Memphis Black Restaurant Week is the 8th Annual Soulful Food Truck Festival. The festival will take place on March 24 at Tiger Lane.
This family-friendly event is open to all ages and features a variety of minority-owned food trucks.
When: Noon-6 p.m. March 24

Cost: $10 for early bird general admission and $20 for early bird VIP early admission at 11 a.m.

St. Patrick's Day at Celtic Crossing Irish Pub
St. Patrick's Day festivities at Celtic Crossing Irish Pub will be held March 16-17 at the pub.
On Saturday, guests can enjoy a special menu, green beer and live music on the patio from 6-9 p.m.
The celebration will continue at 10 a.m. Sunday with a traditional Irish session, beer garden, live music, the Cooper-Young St. Patrick's Day parade, face painting, a DJ and more. Kids are welcome.

St. Patrick's Day at Bog & Barley
Bog & Barley will celebrate St. Patrick's Day on March 17 with extended hours from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. There will be a special menu featuring traditional Irish fare, drink specials, live music inside and outdoors, face painting, giveaways and much more. Kids are welcome.

Aperture Cellars Wine Dinner at 117 Prime
117 Prime and Rootstock Wine Merchants will co-host a wine dinner on March 20 featuring wines from Aperture Cellars in Sonoma County, California. The four-course dinner will include four wine pairings.
When: 6 p.m. March 20

Sunday Wine School at Knifebird
Knifebird Wine Bar in Midtown hosts a monthly Sunday Wine School. Each ticket to this fun and informative wine tasting event includes a 2-hour class, as well as six tasting pours of various wines. An optional cheese or charcuterie pairing can be added to enhance your experience.
