76ers will honor Charles Barkley with a statue on team's 'Legends Walk'
Charles Barkley is coming back to Philadelphia permanently.
The Philadelphia 76ers announced Thursday they will unveil a Charles Barkley statue outside the practice facility in Camden, New Jersey. The Philly legend will be introduced on the “76ers Legends Walk” on Friday, Sept. 13.

Barkley was drafted fifth overall by the Sixers in 1984 and spent the first eight seasons of his 16-year career there. He averaged 23.3 points and 11.6 rebounds per game with a career-high .576 shooting percentage to earn the city’s love. Barkley had five All-Star nods between 1987 and 1992 and the team went to the playoffs all six years.
His No. 34 was retired by the Sixers in 2001 and he’s still the franchise leader in offensive (2,688) and defensive (4,391) rebounds. The Round Mound of Rebound was also one of the team’s most efficient scorers with a franchise-best .614 2-point field goal percentage and .640 true shooting percentage.
Barkley will join Sixers legends Billy Cunningham, Wilt Chamberlain, Maurice Cheeks, Julius Erving, Hal Greer and Bobby Jones in statuesque form outside the facility. Now a popular analyst on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” Barkley also played four seasons each with the Phoenix Suns, where he won MVP in 1992-93, and the Houston Rockets.
