7 shows like 'Who Is Erin Carter?' to watch if you're tired of waiting for news about the second season

Netflix's "Who Is Erin Carter?" follows a young British teacher working in Spain who, after becoming involved in a supermarket shoot-out, raises more questions about her past than answers.

Evin Ahmad stars in the thriller series, which unravels the mystery surrounding Erin and her past, amid the new life she's tried to build for herself with her family.

While there hasn't been any news regarding a second season of "Who Is Erin Carter?" yet, there are lots of similarly action-packed and mysterious shows to watch in the meantime, including "The Blacklist," "Killing Eve," and "The Night Of."

1. "The Americans"

This critically-acclaimed FX period drama stars Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys as two Soviet sleeper agents who are stationed in the Washington, D.C. area as part of the mysterious "Directorate S" program. It's fascinating to watch Russell and Rhys' characters lead double lives — on one hand, they're an ordinary American couple with two kids, a white picket fence, and normal jobs. But the show offers tantalizing glimpses into both their pasts in the Soviet Union, and their current work as spies.

Plus, the chemistry between Russell and Rhys is undeniable — they even got married in real life after falling in love on the show, which aired its first season in 2013.

All six seasons of "The Americans" is available to stream on Hulu.

2. "Killing Eve"

Eve, a dedicated British intelligence agent (Sandra Oh) and a violent, psychopathic killer named Villanelle (Jodie Comer) become obsessed with one another in this BBC spy drama. The more Eve tries to track down and capture Villanelle, the more intertwined the two get in a deliciously complicated game of cat and mouse.

In addition to the stellar performances of Oh and Comer, the show's writing, especially in the first two seasons, is outstanding as well. (Phoebe Waller-Bridge wrote the first season, and Emerald Fennell wrote the second.)

"Killing Eve" is available to stream on the Roku Channel or on AMC+.

3. "Lupin"

Netflix's hit show "Lupin" also follows a person leading a double life — in this case, Frenchman Assane Diop (Omar Sy), who moonlights as a "gentleman thief" in Paris. Heartbroken after his immigrant father's death when he was just a boy, Assane later takes inspiration from a classy criminal named Lupin in his quest for justice for his father.

All three seasons of "Lupin" are available to stream on Netflix.

4. "The Blacklist"

James Spader stars in this NBC thriller about a former FBI fugitive turned FBI cooperator. Spader's character Raymond Reddington was a former US intelligence officer turned fugitive who's now surrendered himself to the FBI in exchange for their help assassinating criminals on his blacklist.

Red is a famously secretive character, and viewers get clues throughout the seasons as to why he's so hell-bent on taking out those on his blacklist, and why he's so obsessed with rookie FBI agent Elizabeth Keen.

Seasons 1 through 9 of "The Blacklist" are available to stream on Netflix. The tenth season, which aired earlier this year, is currently available on Prime Video.

5. "You Don't Know Me"

In "You Don't Know Me," a young man named Hero (Samuel Adewunmi) is put on trial for killing a drug dealer. But instead of simply taking the fall for the crime, Hero decides to share his version of events with the court, which throws his involvement with the murder into question. "You Don't Know Me" shows there are two sides to every story, and some people aren't always what they seem.

"You Don't Know Me" is available to stream on Netflix.

6. "The Night Of"

Much like "You Don't Know Me," HBO's excellent limited series "The Night Of" follows a young man — in this case, college student Nasir "Naz" Khan (Riz Ahmed) — accused of a crime that he says he didn't commit. As the series unfolds, viewers learn more about what actually happened that night, and if Naz was really responsible for a murder. Even though he might be innocent, the toll that a stint in Rikers takes on the young Naz can't be understated, and the series ends on a pretty grim note.

"The Night Of" is available to stream on Max (formerly HBO Max.)

7. "Shining Girls"

Even though she was attacked years ago, Kirby (Elisabeth Moss) still lives with the physical and psychological scars of that night. When another young woman is attacked in the same way and killed, Kirby decides to confront the past and investigate the new crime, all while navigating a constantly-shifting reality that throws her credibility as a narrator into question.

"Shining Girls" is available to stream on Apple TV+.
