'7 Little Johnstons' Amber and Trent Tearfully Recall Son Jonah's Harrowing Birth (Exclusive Clip)

In Season 14 of 7 Little Johnstons, Trent and Amber Johnston's daughter, Liz, revealed she was pregnant with her first child—and in an upcoming episode, they opened up about their son Jonah's harrowing premature delivery.
On Tuesday, May 21, Trent and Amber will share details about the health challenges Jonah faced as a newborn. TLC shared an exclusive sneak peek clip with Parade in which they emotionally recalled his scary delivery and first few months in the hospital.
"Our birth experience with Jonah was completely different than with Elizabeth," Amber said in the clip. "It was horrible."
The Johnston family matriarch tearfully continued: "Following Jonah's birth, [Trent] came in, and he had a black-and-white Polaroid picture of Jonah. All I could really see, because all of this covered with tubes and stuff...Trent just said, 'They're having to breathe for him, and you can't see him right now.'"
Trent then put into perspective how dire the situation was after Jonah was born.
"I left the picture with her, and I said, 'My dad wants me to come back down there.' And I had to look at her, and I said, 'I have to go down there in case he passes away. I gotta be there,'" he recalled.
Trent added while fighting back tears: "Poppy said, 'Make sure you come back quick.' And when your dad tells you, 'Go see your wife, but come back quick in case your son passes away. You need to be here...' That day was just tough."
In total, Jonah spent six weeks in the NICU after he was born because of premature lung development, Amber explained.
"And then once his numbers got OK there, we went to oxygen," she shared. "And he went home on oxygen. But he was in and out of the hospital for about five to six months."
Thankfully, Jonah is 24 and thriving today.
