7 Beautiful Moments from Beyoncé's Birthday Performance in Los Angeles

Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour has already been an iconic moment in pop history, so everyone knew to anticipate a real extravaganza for the pop star’s [ahem] B’Day, especially when she announced a silver dress code for her audiences for all of Virgo season. Naturally, Queen Bey truly delivered and got into her Virgo’s Groove at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles last night, with a number of special surprises just for the lucky 60,000 attendees. Below, relive a few highlights from the night.

1. Kaytranada warmed the crowd up with a DJ set.

Monday’s concert opened with Kaytranada on the turntables.

Along with a number of his other iconic remixes, including his take on Solange’s “Cranes in the Sky,” the producer/DJ played his previously Coachella-exclusive remix of “Cuff It.” And now we’re begging for an official release.

2. Beyoncé debuted a bunch of new outfits.

While Beyoncé has been serving looks all tour long, the Los Angeles crowd got an extra special treat last night when she debuted several dazzling new fits. In keeping with the silver theme, that naturally included a chrome party hat. She also debuted another chrome look, a stunning sheer black cape moment, and to top everything off, a custom purple and gold Versace ensemble.

3. She gave a heartfelt birthday speech.

Before launching into “Flaws and All,” Beyoncé expressed her gratitude while trying not to cry.

“I’m thankful to look out and see your faces,” she said. “I’m thankful to be able to provide a safe space for all of y’all. I’m thankful for music and for the ability to heal myself through music which then heals all of you.”

She also shouted out her children, Jay-Z, her parents, and her former bandmates in Destiny’s Child.

“I’m thankful for every flaw, every stretch mark, every fupa,” she added. “I thank you that I’m here at fucking 42.”

4. Diana Ross made a surprise appearance.

Beyoncé’s backup vocalists have been covering “Love Hangover” throughout the tour. But for the queen’s birthday, nothing less than a live performance from the legendary Diana Ross herself would do.

Beyoncé ran on stage to give the singer a hug, and thanked her for “all your sacrifice, and your beauty and your grace.”

“Thank you for opening the doors for me,” she said.

5. Diana Ross and the whole stadium sang “Happy Birthday.”

After Diana Ross performed, she led SoFi Stadium in singing “Happy Birthday” to Beyoncé. She requested that everyone hold their phone flashlights up, and fittingly, the whole stadium lit up like a disco ball.

6. Kendrick Lamar did his guest verse.

One of the few official Renaissance remixes that has been released thus far includes “AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM,” featuring a verse from Kendrick Lamar. The rapper made a surprise appearance at last night’s show, and although there was a temporary technical setback, he still performed with style.

As a silver lining though, one stan account pointed out that the performance also marks the first time Bey has vogued on her knees this whole tour. Like Beyoncé herself said during her birthday speech, thank god for making lemonade out of lemons.

7. At the end of the show, her dancers presented a birthday surprise.

Last but certainly not least, at the end of the show, Beyoncé’s dancers surprised her with flowers and a candle-topped cupcake, capping off the festive atmosphere for the most spectacular celebration of this Virgo season.
