6ix9ine dodged a prison sentence Tuesday in his ongoing child sex case.
According to TMZ, the polarizing rapper was sentenced to four years of probation with a one-year credit, just as his legal team had requested. As part of his probation terms, the 22-year-old is required to perform 1,000 hours of community service, and is prohibited from participating in any gang activity; that includes associating with any known gang members.
Of course, any arrests made during his sentence will be considered a violation and could result in time behind bars.
6ix9ine—born Daniel Hernandez—pleaded guilty to "use of a child in a sexual performance" in 2015, after he was filmed having sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl. Though he admits to posting the footage online, the Brooklyn artist claimed the victim had lied about her age.
"I don't know her exact age, I think she was 14 or some shit like that," he told DJ Akademiks in 2017.
"When she came in she asked me how old I was and I told her I was 18 and I assumed she was older," he said in his 2015 police statement. "The way she was asking made me think she was older."
Earlier this week, it was reported that New York prosecutors were pushing for 6ix9ine to receive a one- to three-year prison sentnece, citing his consistent plea deal violations. Not only did he fail to obtain his GED, he was also arrested twice in 2018. One of the arrests was for the alleged attack on 16-year-old boyin Texas; the other was for driving without a license.
Prosecutors argued that a light sentencing would send the wrong message to "like-minded offenders who follow defendant on social media and other outlets."
"[6ix9ine] has instead been arrested multiple times for crimes he committed this year and he has chosen to become a member of the 9 Trey Bloods gang," Manhattan Assistant D.A. Sara Weiss wrote in a letter to Judge Felicia Mennin. "Defendant has exacerbated his own violent conduct by using his public platform and significant following to provoke and promote incidents of gun violence."
Despite prosecutors' efforts, 6ix9ine will remain a free man—that is, if he manages to stay out of trouble.
Shortly after he received the probation sentence, 6ix9ine posted an Instagram photo with the caption: "GOD IS GOOD [...]."
