6 restaurant openings, 1 closure in two weeks: See what's new in Louisville

November may be over, but the month didn't end without several new restaurants opening in the Louisville area.

Within the last two weeks, the area has gained six eateries, including a carryout pizza joint, a tea shop and some barbecue options.

Also this month, we said goodbye to at least one longtime eatery. Funmi Cafe, a Nigerian restaurant in the Highlands, announced its closure in late November, following 13 years in business.

"We are retiring from the restaurant industry and as a result, Funmi's Cafe is closed," stated the post on Funmi Cafe's Facebook page, which has nearly 9,000 followers. "We may be saying farewell to Funmi's Cafe, but the immeasurable support from each and every one of you over the past 13 years has been remarkable."

Read on for more details about the new restaurants that opened in Louisville this month.

A popular barbecue chain has opened in Jeffersontown the former spot of Feast BBQ. Louisville-area residents can now get their fix of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, known for Texas-style barbecue and homestyle sides.

“There are many great restaurants in Louisville but nobody serves slow-smoked BBQ the way Dickey’s does,” states the restaurant’s website.

Founded in 1941, Dickey’s now bills itself as the country’s largest barbecue restaurant franchise with roughly 500 locations.

This spot has become well-known on Bardstown Road for its fried chicken, craft beer and patio space. Now, there’s a second location of The Eagle.

The eatery, which comes from the Cincinnati-owned Thunderdome Restaurant Group, opened another location of The Eagle on Nov. 22 at the Oxmoor Center.

This comes seven years after The Eagle began serving fried chicken and southern sides in the Highlands.

The Eagle features all-natural, free-range fried chicken brined in-house, which you can order as a whole chicken, half chicken, or drumsticks. Shareable items include house-pickled French green beans, hush puppies and a Pimento cheese snack plate. The menu also features sandwiches, plus side items such as collard greens, coleslaw, white cheddar grits, sweet potatoes with toasted mini marshmallows and shrimp-and-grits.

It’s tea time! More than two years after Fleur de Tea opened in Norton Commons, a second location launched in Old Louisville on Nov. 13. Owner Jasmine Gatti is following up on her original plan to open the tea shop in the downtown neighborhood.

"I wanted to be there from the beginning," Gatti previously told the Courier Journal. "Downtown was always my first choice.”

Gatti also said the kitchen space is bigger in the new digs, allowing for more food items to join the menu.

Fleur de Tea offers more than 60 kinds of tea, to be made in a teapot or in a latte or, simply, “made strong,” according to its menu.

The second location is near the intersection of Fourth and Oak streets in Old Louisville.

The fast-casual concept, created by Texas Roadhouse founder, Kent Taylor, features burgers, hand-breaded chicken tenders and sandwiches, served with signature scratch-made sauces. Jaggers also offers crisp, fresh salads chopped and tossed when ordered and served with signature scratch-made dressings.

Jaggers currently operates two other locations in Louisville at 10609 Westport Road and 646 Dutchmans Parkway.

The second location of Noche Mexican BBQ joined a mix of food options inside The Village Market Food Hall & Bar in Paristown. Opening during the final week of November in the popular food hall, Noche offers a blend of Mexican fare and Texas-style barbecue, plus flavored margaritas and other craft cocktails.

The new spot comes four years after Noche opened at 1838 Bardstown Road, taking over a former church.

Noche’s menu features tacos, burritos and quesadillas with proteins such as smoked brisket, chicken tinga, al pastor and carnitas. Other popular items include armadillo eggs (bacon-wrapped stuffed jalapeños), smoked wings, carne asada fries and seasonal cocktails.

Noche joins other food hall options such as Bunz Burger, Sarap Filipino Eatery, Banditz Pizza and Jeff's Donuts.

A well-known Germantown pizza and beer spot set up a second, carryout-only location in the Highlands. The Post's takeout location opened at 1759 Bardstown Road on Nov. 22 and is next to Pivot Brewing, El Mundo and Darling's cocktail bar in the Shops at Deer Park. The space was previously occupied by Rawnaissance, a vegan dessert shop.

The New York-style pizza joint’s menu includes 12-inch and 16-inch signature pies, plus “giant slices,” calzones and salads.

After nearly nine years on Goss Avenue, co-owner Laura Neely, said The Post already has "kind of an established base," and the team is looking forward to the expansion, as previously reported by the Courier Journal.

"We're going to really just focus on pizzas and slices and not have the grill program that's on our menu at the current store," she said.
