6-Year-Old Oregon Boy Mauled to Death on Way to School Is ID'd: 'Touched So Many Hearts'

The boy was identified on a GoFundMe campaign as Loyalty Scott

Loved ones have identified the 6-year-old Oregon boy who died last week after being mauled by two dogs who have since been euthanized.

The boy, identified on a GoFundMe campaign as Loyalty Scott, had been left with his grandmother’s friend, who was supposed to take him to school at the time of the attack on Dec. 5, Fox 12 reported, citing Portland Police Bureau Public Information Officer Mike Benner.

Police previously said in a news release that the boy was pronounced dead at the scene by the time officers responded to the house on the city's northeast side just after 7:30 a.m. The woman who owned the dogs was injured and later taken to the hospital for treatment, according to police.

“Loyalty touched so many hearts,” the boy’s family wrote on the fundraiser. “He always had a smile on his face and there was no way anyone could be in a bad mood around him.”

Benner told Fox 12 the boy followed the woman into her garage, where the dogs were kept, when one of the dogs began attacking him.

“We understand that the homeowner/dog owner did everything in her power to stop this attack, at some point even grabbing a gun — it never got that far,” Benner reportedly said.

Police said the two dogs, which were believed to be Great Dane-Mastiff mixes, were taken into custody by Multnomah County Animal Services. In a Dec. 6 update, police shared that the dogs involved in the attack had been euthanized. A third dog in the house at the time of the incident remained in the custody of Multnomah County Animal Services pending further investigation.

While local police have offered to pay for the boy's funeral, relatives shared on the GoFundMe page that the family still needs help with living expenses. It has raised nearly $10,000 in donations as of Monday.

“[Loyalty] loved everyone and everything,” the fundraising page states. “He was so pure and unaffected by the negatives in the world. He definitely changed my outlook on life and made this world so beautiful.”
