6-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Shot, Killed 5-Year-Old: Police

According to Michigan State Police, the two children found a loaded gun in a bedroom at their grandparents' home

A 5-year-old boy is dead after police say a 6-year-old accidentally shot him with a gun they found at their grandparents' house in Michigan.

In an interview with ABC 13, Lt. Michelle Robinson of the Michigan State Police said that authorities were called to a home in Garfield Township on April 1 after it was reported that a child sustained a gunshot wound. The child died from their injuries.

Michigan State Police provided an update on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, stating that it has been determined that the two children found the loaded gun in a bedroom at their grandparents' home. The 6-year-old boy was holding the gun when it discharged.

It is unclear if the grandparents or guardians of the children will be charged in connection with the shooting. ABC 13 reports that the children are relatives, but did not confirm anything further about their relationship.
