6 great sports bars to watch football in Naples, Cape Coral, Marco, Fort Myers Beach

If you can't make it to a game, the next best thing is watching it surrounded by other football fans, on numerous TVs while enjoying great food and drinks.

Sports bars offer an escape of sorts, an oasis from the real world especially over the next five months or so as football is just starting up with college games in full swing and the NFL season kicking off Sept. 7 when the Detroit Lions play at the Kansas City Chiefs at night. The rest of the NFL games are this weekend.

What defines a great sports bar? Multiple TVs is a great start so you watch any game from wherever you're sitting.

And secondly and perhaps more importantly, the food should taste great with more than just chips and pretzels. Sports bars score bonus points if they display memorabilia like photos, pennants and jerseys. Beers on tap, especially microbrewery options? Even better.

There are about 19,000 sports bars in the U.S. And sportsbars.com has ranked its top 100 in the country, and this one for Standings on East Seventh Street in New York City sums up a great sports bar.

"With jerseys, sports headlines, and pennants hanging on the walls and from the ceilings, you’ll be transported into a world of sports when you walk into Standings," the website said.

Here's some sports bars to check out in Southwest Florida.
