Fontaines D.C.: A Hero’s Death [Partisan]

A Hero’s Death is the second album from Dublin post-punk band Fontaines D.C., following last year’s Dogrel. Led by singer Grian Chatten, the band reckons with sincerity (“A Hero’s Death”) and deals with echo chambers (“Televised Mind”).

In 2018, jazz percussionist and producer Makaya McCraven released his expansive album Universal Beings. Now, he’s released a 14-track companion project, recorded during those same sessions. The new material, which features appearances from Jeff Parker, Shabaka Hutchings, and several others, arrives with an accompanying making-of documentary.

Universal Beings E&F Sides is the second album from Makaya McCraven this year, following February’s Gil Scott-Heron tribute We’re New Again: A Reimagining by Makaya McCraven.

Mike Polizze: Long Lost Solace Find [Paradise of Bachelors]

In Purling Hiss, guitarist Mike Polizze charged forward with fuzzy, unassuming rock songs. Long Lost Solace Find—Polizze’s first album under his own name—is a set of light and easygoing songs rendered on acoustic guitar. Polizze’s longtime Philadelphia buddy Kurt Vile embellishes the record with backing vocals, slide guitar, harmonica, and, on “Revelation,” trumpet.
