‘540 Social’ Entertainment concept proposed for Bonsack area in Roanoke County

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A new proposal is underway to bring new social entertainment to Roanoke County.

Documents obtained by WFXR show the Trail Development Group LLC. is hoping to bring the new “540 Social” to the Bonsack area. In 2023, developers started exploring options and locations to bring this project to the Roanoke area and settled on Challenger Avenue.

Construction to begin at Washington Park to build new pool in Roanoke

During the mid-1950s, Trail Drive-In Theatre was built off of US-460, near the CVS and Sunoco. The theatre was a family business through 1985. However, the theatre closed more than 40 years ago, and since, the lot has been empty.

Now, the Trail Development Group is hoping to bring the entertainment roots back to life with its “540 Social” development.

The developers say “540 Social” is planning to open for seven days a week. The nearly $10 million complex will feature an indoor and outdoor pickleball court, corn hole, ping pong, fowling, high-tech bowling, axe throwing, darts, an arcade, and 18-hole outdoor champion-style mini golf options. Documents say the restaurant will have indoor and outdoor seating available for guests.

The entertainment center will also include a restaurant and will hopefully bring up to 100 jobs with part-time and full-time positions available across entertainment attractions, the maintenance division, the sales department, the management team, catering, and marketing.

However, to make it all happen, developers are requesting that the parcel on Challenger Avenue be rezoned, which is required for Restaurant/ Entertainment to be set on the land.

This project is scheduled to be addressed during the planning commission’s meeting on July 2.
