5 things to do in Westmoreland County this weekend: Sept. 1-3

Aug. 31—Celebration of labor

The annual Labor United Celebration is planned for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at Northmoreland Park, 280 Markle Road, Allegheny Township.

The event features carnival rides, live music, food and beverages, bingo, arts and crafts marketplace, flea market, activities and the one-ring Zerbini Family Circus.

Admission and parking are free. A $4 all-day activity pass includes access to rides, petting zoo, circus, obstacle courses and other activities.

Arts and crafts festival

The 30th Pennsylvania Arts & Crafts Labor Day Festival runs Friday through Monday at the Westmoreland Fairgrounds in Mt. Pleasant Township. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Monday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The festival features more than 200 vendors offering home decor, gift items, jewelry, embellished clothing, floral arrangements, seasonal decorations, pet treats and accessories, drink and dip mixes, body care products and more.

A variety of children's activities and food vendors will be available.

Musical performers include Part Time Cowboys on Saturday, Penn Trafford Community Band on Sunday and American Pie on Monday.

Admission is $6.50, $6 for ages 65 and older, $3 for ages 12-15.

Museum happenings

These free activities are planned on Saturday at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, 221 N. Main St., Greensburg:

—Cantilever Conversations, 1-2 p.m. — Docents will offer guided, drop-in tours of the featured exhibits, including "Block Party: Community and Celebration in American Art." No registration is needed.

—Music Jam Session, 1-2:30 p.m. — Practice Makes Perfect Music Studio will lead an informal, all-ages drum circle, with information on the history and uses of a wide range of drums and percussion instruments. Attendees can bring their own percussion instruments or use one of the hand drums provided.

High-energy country

The Hempfield Township Amp Up Your Summer Concert Series hosts Saddle Up at 7 p.m. Saturday in Hempfield Park, 220 Forbes Trail Road.

Saddle Up promises a high-energy show of current and classic country-rock songs.

Food will be available from Benvenuti's Pizza Factory. Attendees should bring their own seating.

Caddie Shak cruise

A Veterans Anything With Wheels car cruise will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Caddie Shak, 132 Caddie Shak Road, Donegal Township.

The cruise will feature 50/50 and basket raffles, DJ and fireworks finale.

Admission is $10 per vehicle and free to spectators. Caddie Shak amusements and food are available for a fee.
