5 things to do this weekend: UGA India Night, Freestyle Party, Wine Weekend and more

Though there's never a shortage of festivals, markets and other cultural happenings in the Classic City, we've chosen to spotlight these events for the weekend of Feb. 2-4, 2024.

Each week, the Banner-Herald will publish a list of five options for things to do in the Athens area. Please note that the events in this list are subject to rescheduling, cancelation or tickets selling out.

UGA India Night

WHERE: The Classic Center Theatre (300 N. Thomas St.)

WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. ($21.25 - $33.00 admission)

DETAILS: Over the past 30 years, India Night has grown from a small-scale cultural show into the longest-running event hosted by the University of Georgia's Indian Cultural Exchange. The Bollywood-fusion dance competition will feature dance teams from across the United States. For tickets, visit classiccenter.com/1606/UGA-India-Night.

Freestyle Spit'n Party

WHERE: work.shop (160 Winston Dr., Suite #9)

WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 3 at 8 p.m. ($10 admission)

DETAILS: Presented by MBE Promo with LA. Entertainment and hosted by ATHfactor-Liberty Entertainment CEO Montu Miller, this show will feature a mix of veteran Athens MCs, artists and producers and new talent showing off their respective abilities at skilled lyrical improvisation. This event will be a must-see for Athens hip hop fans.

Ice Cream for Breakfast Day

WHERE: Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream (1710 Lumpkin St.)

WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon (Free admission)

DETAILS: Customers will have the opportunity to enjoy an early morning scoop or bowl of Jeni's unique varieties of ice cream, or try the special Banana French Toast flavor in a cinnamon-sprinkled waffle cone. Jeni's will also offer the "Banoffee L’affogato," which consists of two scoops of Banana French Toast ice cream topped with cold brew coffee.

Athens Wine Weekend

WHERE: The Classic Center Theatre (300 N. Thomas St.)

WHEN: Friday, Feb. 2 - Sunday, Feb. 4 (Times vary; $10 and up admission; Ages 21 and over only)

DETAILS: Though the Classic Center does offer high-dollar Wine Weekend packages, there are several budget options including $10 seminars by wine educators and Saturday's $50 Grand Tasting event, where you can sample wines from around the world. Valentine's Day Market

WHERE: Athentic Brewing Company (108 Park Ave.)

WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 3 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. (Free admission)

DETAILS: Guests looking to shop local for Valentine's Day gifts will have plenty of options to choose from at this craft market, which will feature handmade jewelry, pottery, paintings and more. For those who aren't into shopping, there will be food trucks on site as well as themed Valentine's Day beverages and Athentic's signature brews.
