5 things to do this weekend: Step competition, Bad ATH Babes, beer bake-off and more

Though there's never a shortage of festivals, markets and other cultural happenings in the Classic City, we've chosen to spotlight these events for the weekend of Jan. 26-28.

3rd Annual Step Resurgence

WHERE: Oconee County Civic Center (2661 Hog Mountain Rd. in Watkinsville)

WHEN: Saturday, Jan. 27 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. ($14 advance, $19 on the day of the show)

DETAILS: Athens-based League of Step will host some of the best local and national step teams as they compete for cash prizes, trophies, bragging rights, and a qualifying spot to advance to the Youth Step USA National Step Competition. Bad ATH Babes

DETAILS: Athens' first and only all-women stand-up comedy group will be celebrating their one-year anniversary with a showcase featuring sets by local comics Britt Ammons, Michelle Monroe, Christine Williams, Angel, Bad ATH Babes founding members Allison Coleman and Meg Abbott, and special guests Miss Carrie and friends.

Wake-n-Bake Off 2024

WHERE: Terrapin Beer Co. (265 Newton Bridge Rd.)

WHEN: Sunday, Jan. 28 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. ($20 admission)

DETAILS: Terrapin's Wake-n-Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout is the star ingredient in this creative cooking and baking competition. Ticket price includes a souvenir Wake-n-Bake glass, one (1) pour of Wake-n-Bake beer, sweet and savory tastings from local restaurants, and exclusive discounts on Wake-n-Bake merchandise and to-go beer.

LEGO Club

WHERE: Athens-Clarke County Library (2025 Baxter St.)

WHEN: Saturday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. (Free admission, ages 11 and under only)

DETAILS: LEGO building is even better with friends, and the ACC Library's LEGO club makes things easier by providing the blocks. During this event, guests up to age 11 can participate in LEGO-based activities including creating LEGO art. For questions or additional information, call the ACC Library at (706) 613-3650.

Afropop Epiphany

WHERE: Covenant Presbyterian Church of Athens (1065 Gaines School Rd.)

WHEN: Friday, Jan. 26 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. (Free admission)

DETAILS: Presented by the Atlanta-based Africana Digital Ethnography Project (ADEPt), this hour-long concert will feature David Aina, Bayo Bello, Quintina Carter-Enyi, Tosinger and Winnie Mburu performing a selection of seasonal and timeless favorites from across Africa. The show is open to the public, and ADEPt will be accepting donations.
