5 things to do this weekend: R&B concert, Zombie Farms, North Georgia Folk Fest and more

Though there's never a shortage of festivals, markets and other cultural happenings in the Classic City, we've chosen to spotlight these events for the weekend of Oct. 6-8.

DETAILS: Athens-based promoter Volumes Hip-Hop presents an evening of lyrical MCs and smooth R&B artists featuring local acts T.W.I.N., DK, Nony1, Kive and Jay Kasame and dynamic New Orleans-based singer and rapper Indi'Gxld. Seating at Flicker is limited, so be sure to get there by 9 p.m. when the curtain opens.

DETAILS: Looking for an escape from the scary Game Day crowds? Enjoy a safe, quiet evening with the undead beginning at 7:45 p.m. in the Halloween Forest, then move on to the Main Trail at 8 p.m. and party with more than 50 trained "scare actors". WHEN: Friday, Oct. 6 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. (Free admission)

DETAILS: Athens fine artist and mural painter Will Eskridge presents his "Fangs For the Memories" gallery with this opening party featuring new works that explore the dichotomy of fangs as curses and blessings. Eskridge's one-of-a-kind juxtaposition of nocturnal creatures and sugary desserts is a perfect way to start the spooky season.

North Georgia Folk Festival

DETAILS: The 38th annual North Georgia Folk Festival is a day-long event featuring live music performances, artists and craftspeople from north Georgia and surrounding areas. Drive-in movie: 'Nope'

WHERE: Southern Brewing Company (231 Collins Ind. Blvd.)

WHEN: Sunday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. ($10 admission)

DETAILS: The Ciné Drive-In has been going strong at SoBrewCo since the summer, where folks can enjoy a beer or bring their own (non-alcoholic) refreshments to watch great movies together on Sunday nights.
