5 things to do this weekend: Porchfest, Boo-le-Bark, Scary Slimy Day, 'Candyman' and more
Though there's never a shortage of festivals, markets and other cultural happenings in the Classic City, we've chosen to spotlight these events for the weekend of Oct. 13-15.

Boo-le-Bark Costume Dog Parade
WHERE: Boulevard Woods Park (298 Barber St.)
WHEN: Sunday, Oct. 15 at 3:45 p.m. (Free admission)
DETAILS: This annual costume contest and parade is one of Athens' best family events. For those interested in entering their dog in the contest and/or walking in the parade, registration (with applicable fees) is open through the day of the event, and the online form can be found at barkonboulevard.com/registration.
Auntie’s Soirée at Porchfest
WHERE: Historic Athens building (489 Prince Ave.)
WHEN: Sunday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. (Free admission)
DETAILS: Award-winning Athens R&B artist Cassie Chantel will perform one of her signature interactive concerts and host a listening party for her upcoming album to be released on Chantel's label Tribe House Records. Fans are invited to stick around after the show for a meet-and-greet opportunity with the artist.
Scary Oozy Slimy Day
WHERE: Sandy Creek Nature Center (205 Old Commerce Rd.)
WHEN: Friday, Oct. 13 from 6-8 p.m. ($3 for Athens-Clarke County residents, $5 for non-residents)
DETAILS: This unique event is designed as an opportunity for kids and adults to interact with nocturnal animals and other creatures that are typically considered to be scary or creepy. The program includes games, activities, live animal encounters and a night hike. To pre-register, visit accgovga.myrec.com/info/activities.
‘Candyman’ free screening
WHERE: The Morton Theatre (195 W. Washington St.)
WHEN: Friday, Oct. 13 from 7-8:30 p.m. (Free admission)
DETAILS: The historic Morton Theatre presents a free public screening of director Nia DaCosta's "Candyman," a direct sequel to the 1992 original horror classic. The story concerns a photographer who becomes obsessed with the Candyman urban legend. The movie is rated R and contains graphic violence and strobe lighting effects.
The Frigg
WHERE: Live Wire Athens (227 W. Dougherty St.)
WHEN: Friday, Oct. 13 from 6 p.m. to midnight ($10 admission)
DETAILS: Fifteen Athens hip hop artists are on the lineup for this concert that will also feature local vendors, food from Hungry Lion Caribbean Grill, an art gallery and tattoos by Rude Ink and Alpha Omega Ink. Performers include Clark County, Molly Tu Hott, Trvy, Mula Meech, Wyatt Patton and more with vibes by DJ B-Riel and DJ Sublime.
