5 things to do this weekend: Lonnie Holley concert, holiday pottery sale and more
Though there's never a shortage of festivals, markets and other cultural happenings in the Classic City, we've chosen to spotlight these events for the weekend of Dec. 8-10.

Lonnie Holley
WHERE: 40 Watt Club (285 W. Washington St.)
WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 9 from 7 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. ($30 admission)
DETAILS: This concert for mental health awareness will feature performances by Alabama-based artist Lonnie Holley and Athens bands Night Palace, Well Kept and Trvy. Proceeds from the event will go toward local resource and service organizations Nuçi’s Space, Friends of Advantage Behavioral and the Vic Chesnutt Awards Program.
The Good Dirt Holiday Sale
WHERE: Good Dirt Clay Studio (485 Macon Hwy.)
WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Free admission)
DETAILS: Good Dirt's holiday pottery sale will feature handmade items from 27 participating Athens area artists, including tableware, jewelry, mugs, bowls and more. The artists will be in attendance, and Good Dirt will provide free coffee, food and giveaways for a chance to win free pottery classes and pieces of art from the sale.
Sorority House of the Dead
WHERE: Town & Gown Players (115 Grady Ave.)
WHEN: Friday, Dec. 8 and Saturday, Dec. 9 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ($20 admission)
DETAILS: Written by Mitch Brian and set in 1987, this comedic play inspired by 1980s horror movies is about two hapless young women who attend a rush party for Delta Pi Sigma, a sorority full of vampires. Expect big shoulder pads, bigger hair and buckets of blood. The show is scheduled to run again the weekend of Dec. 14-16.
Unplugged for the Cottage
WHERE: Southern Brewing Company (231 Collins Industrial Blvd.)
WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 9 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. ($15 admission)
DETAILS: This benefit concert for The Cottage Sexual Assault Center and Children's Advocacy Center will feature live music, food provided by Concessions on the Move and more. Lineup of performers includes Marisa Leilani, John Kiran Fernandes, Kate Morrissey Band and Roger Stahl, Tracy Brown and Jeff Lustig, and Haunted Shed Duo.
The Studio Athens Presents the Grinch
WHERE: UGA Fine Arts Theatre (255 Baldwin St.)
WHEN: Friday, Dec. 8 through Sunday, Dec. 9 ($15-$20 admission)
DETAILS: The Studio Athens' second annual production of "The Grinch" is a family-friendly show that features songs, characters and scenes from the classic 1966 animated film "How The Grinch Stole Christmas."
