Each week, the Banner-Herald will publish a list of five options for things to do in the Athens area.

Though there's never a shortage of festivals, markets and other cultural happenings in the Classic City, we've chosen to spotlight these events for the weekend of Aug. 25-27.

Scrapstock Kick-Off Party

WHERE: Athentic Brewing Company (108 Park Ave.)

WHEN: Friday, Aug. 25 from 6:30-10:30 p.m. (Free admission)

DETAILS: Catch a free concert featuring some of the Classic City's greatest hip hop artists such as Caulfield, Motorhead 2X, Only1Riggs, Cardynal, Molly Tu Hott, BayBay, P.O. The Priceless One and Amun-Ra. Event will include vendors, food by Homy's Kitchen, and turntablists djbobfish and Jiig will provide vibes all night.

WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 26 at 7:45 p.m. ($10 single admission or 2 for $14).

DETAILS: Athens' only all-women stand-up comedy group has been performing monthly at Buvez since January 2023. Saturday's show will feature sets by local comics Britt Ammons, Michelle Monroe, Christine Williams, and Bad ATH Babes founding members Allison Coleman and Meg Abbott.

‘The Elephant 6 Recording Co.’

WHERE: Ciné (234 W. Hancock Ave.)

WHEN: Friday, Aug. 25 and Saturday, Aug. 26 ($9.75 admission, $8 with student I.D.)

DETAILS: This new documentary feature combines archival concert footage and recent interviews with members of The Elephant 6 Recording Co., a collective of local musicians whose contributions to indie rock through their respective bands earned them a plaque on the Athens Music Walk of Fame. WHERE: Lyndon House House Arts Center - North lawn (2011 Hoyt St.)

WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 26 at noon (Free admission)

DETAILS: Day-long Shakespeare festival will include family-friendly activities, vendors, Renaissance-era music and demonstrations, a tricycle joust, food and more. The festivities will conclude with a 6:30 p.m. performance of the classic William Shakespeare comedy, "As You Like It."

WHERE: Hendershot's (237 Prince Ave.)

WHEN: Friday, Aug. 26 from 9 p.m. to midnight ($5 admission, ages 18 and up only)

DETAILS: The evening's "Rock & Roll" themed program will feature performances by Athens drag entertainers Kellie Divine, Alice D, Jenn Sparx and Sasha Stephens, drag kings Diego Wolf and Nik at Nite, burlesque artists Vianca Champagne and Jackie N. Hyde, and a performance by Belli Dance of Athens.
