September is leaving us with a laugh and a splash (hopefully not by way of predicted showers). We have two living legends performing stand-up on Friday and a 5K fest on Lake Harris kicking the weekend off early on Saturday. Also on Saturday, the Mount Dora Viva La Frida Festival, a Lake County first in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, will surely get folks dancing, and it's polka time with an Oktoberfest dance and banquet in southeastern Lake County.

October is off to a running start with a John Denver tribute on Sunday, and two popular events busying-up Tuesday: the grand opening of the Lady Lake Farmers and Crafts Market and National Day Out, an event celebrated by police and citizens across the nation.

FRIDAY

Two icons of the 1970s and 80s will co-headline a stand-up comedy show this Friday.

Michael Winslow, the self-described voice acrobat of "Police Academy fame," and Jimmie ‘JJ’ Walker, the wise-cracking eldest son in Norman Lear’s inner-city 70s TV series, Good Times, among other roles, will be performing at the Mount Dora Music Hall on Friday, Sept. 29, at 8 p.m.

Winslow, who bleeped and blooped vocal sound effects and roles in all seven of the "Police Academy" movies as well as "Spaceballs" the Mel Brooks spoof on "Star Wars." The resident of Winter Springs made a memorable appearance on "America's Got Talent," where he heart-rendingly attributed his career hiatus to time spent raising his children after the loss of his wife.

Golden Globe-winner Walker recently made an amusing appearance on the daytime drama "The Bold and the Beautiful." Tickets are $30-$80. The Mount Dora Music Hall is at 520 N. Baker St. mountdoramusichall.com.
