A young girl died after she was injured when a car crashed into the back of her father's car on a Minnesota highway.

The Minnesota State Patrol said a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder rear-ended a 2006 Ford Focus that had stalled in the left lane of Eastbound Highway 36 at Lake Elmo Avenue just before 9 p.m. on Saturday, according to an incident report viewed by PEOPLE.

Four people were transported to Regions Hospital following the crash, including 5-year-old Morgan Rae Peterson, who later died of her injuries, per the incident report.

Family members said the child died from a broken neck and brain injuries, according to NBC affiliate KARE and a GoFundMe campaign started to support her family.

Mom Lauren Lambert told KARE that her daughter was “outgoing” and always “full of energy and love,” adding, “She had a lot of love to give, and it’s more than unfortunate that she doesn’t get to now.”

Mason Peterson, 10, and Christopher Peterson, 43, sustained non-life threatening injuries, MSP said.

Christopher, Morgan’s father, said he sustained a concussion and mild head injury in the crash, according to KARE and Christopher’s sister, Nicole Guillette, who organized the GoFundMe campaign.

As of Tuesday afternoon, more than $22,000 has been raised via GoFundMe to support the Peterson family following Saturday’s tragic crash.

“Morgan was the brightest light in every room. At 5 years old, she was the boss of everyone and she knew it,” Guillette said in the fundraiser’s description.

“She loved to sing, dance, play with her dolls, and was very spunky, outgoing, funny, and energetic," Morgan's aunt added. "She was one of a kind.”

Funds from the campaign will go toward helping the Petersons “give Morgan the proper services” and to assist the family “with other costs that have arisen from this tragic accident” including medical bills, losing their car, time off work to grieve and recover from injuries and more.

“Nobody plans to lose their baby and they need this support,” Guillette said.

The 47-year-old driver of the Pathfinder involved in Saturday’s crash sustained non-life threatening injuries. It is unclear if alcohol factored into the crash.
