A 5-year-old boy saves diabetic mom's life: 'I would've been dead'
A 5-year-old boy is being hailed a hero after his quick thinking helped save his diabetic mother's life.
Benjamin found his mom, Chelsie Montemayor, lying in her bed unresponsive due to dangerously low blood sugar.
He quickly called his grandmother "crying and screaming" for help when he noticed something was wrong, KTRK reported. "Memaw, please help me," Marciela Torres said Benjamin was screaming.
Torres called Montemayor's husband, who called 911. Torres rushed to their home before paramedics got to their house.
"They checked her [blood] sugar [level] and it was 39, which is way too low. And she couldn't wake up, so they gave her something to get her sugar up and she started coming to," Torres said.
The Texas mother of two told KTRK she felt fine that morning before her husband left for work.
"Honestly, I don't remember anything," Montemayor said. "If he would not have called for help, I would've been dead."
Montemayor is recovering and urges parents to teach their kids what to do in an emergency early.
"Teach your kids, even if you have to put an emoji by someone's name or different colored hearts by certain people's names so they know if there's an emergency, this heart will call dad, this heart will call grandma," she said.
