Buck Meek: Two Saviors [Keeled Scales]

Buck Meek recorded his new album, directly to tape, with a full live band in New Orleans. Contributors include Meek’s brother Dylan, who played piano and organ, as well as Big Thief bandmate Adrianne Lenker, who co-wrote the single “Candle.” Two Saviors follows Meek’s self-titled 2018 album.

shame: Drunk Tank Pink [Dead Oceans]

shame’s new album is called Drunk Tank Pink, a reference to the shade of bubblegum-pink that has been found to reduce hostile or aggressive behavior. In her Pitchfork review of the album, Madison Bloom writes, “Drunk Tank Pink is the sound of a band stretching into new shapes.” Drunk Tank Pink follows shame’s 2018 debut Songs of Praise.

Patricia Brennan: Maquishti [Valley of Search]

Mexican-born, Brooklyn-based composer and vibraphonist Patricia Brennan has appeared on recordings for ECM and New Amsterdam. She’s releasing her debut LP, Maquishti, via Valley of Search, a label best known for issuing the work of saxophonist Alan Braufman. Brennan recorded Maquishti with vibraphone and marimba, making use of unconventional performance techniques and guitar pedals to shape her sound. “This album reflects my vision for the vibraphone and the potential of all the possible ways it can be played,” she has said.

Patricia Brennan: Maquishti

Danielle Durack: No Place [self-released]

Phoenix, Arizona singer-songwriter Danielle Durack wrote No Place in 2018 and 2019 before recording the album in her mother’s basement. She’s described the 10-track effort as a brekaup record. No Place follows Durack’s 2019 Bashful EP and 2017 debut Bonnie Rose.

Rising death metal band Gatecreeper surprise-released their new album An Unexpected Reality. The record begins with seven thrashing, minute-long tracks before the doomy 11-minute closer “Emptiness.” The mix of genres was inspired by Black Flag’s My War.
