The hottest show of the fall is gearing up for its exciting finale, but will Player 016 (Sam), Player 287 (Mai) or Player 451 (Phill) be named the ultimate winner of “Squid Game: The Challenge”? The Netflix reality TV show concludes on Wednesday, December 6, with one person about to become $4.56 million richer. (Yes, that’s the largest cash prize in television history.) Gold Derby asked the show’s fans to tell us who they are rooting for to prevail, and we can now reveal the poll results:

49% — Player 287 (Mai)

By far, Mai has been featured more on the show than the other two finalists, thanks in part to her initial mistrust (and later apology) to Player 182 (TJ). And of course, who could forget Mai going after Player 278 (Ashley) in the “Die Test” because she saw her as disloyal for the way she acted toward Player 301 (Trey) in the “Glass Bridge” challenge?

Sam, Mai and Phill are the Final 3 players remaining in Season 1 from a whopping 456 initial contestants. That insanely large number was whittled down over the course of the first nine episodes, with the others in the Top 9 being Ashley, Player 355 (Hallie), Player 051 (Rose), Player 429 (Elliott), Player 019 (Amanda) and Player 418 (Roland). We highlight all of the fan-faves in our photo gallery above.

This “Challenge” is based on Netflix’s 2019 drama series “Squid Game” that won six Emmy Awards including Lee Jung-jae for Best Drama Actor and Hwang Dong-hyuk for Best Drama Director. Fans of that survival show will recognize several games on the spin-off including “Red Light, Green Light,” “Dalgona,” “Marbles” and “Glass Bridge.” In addition, there are some new games like “Warship,” “Jack-in-the-box,” “Allegiance” and “Circle of Trust.”
