How 45-Year-Old Man Met 16-Year-Old Whom He Ran Away With To Mexico
Stacey says she and her husband, Kevin Esterly, met Amy Yu at church eight years ago when the young girl was 8 or 9 years old. Stacey says Yu became close friends with the Esterly’s daughter, and Amy started spending so much time with their family, Stacey considered her a “fifth daughter.” Stacey says she and Kevin became parental figures in Amy’s life, and she even referred to them as “Mom” and “Dad.”

“From the moment we met, her she was very clingy. I felt that she was crying out for attention,” Stacey claims of Amy, who lives with her mother and brother and whose father lives in China.
But Stacey says her relationship with Amy changed eight months ago. “I expressed my concern that I didn’t want Amy around, because [Kevin] had made a schedule and presented it to her mother,” Stacey tells Dr. Phil in an exclusive interview airing Thursday. She explains that the schedule had Amy spending almost every night with the Esterly family, whether at church or the Esterly home. “There was a turning point on why he wanted her around all the time,” she continues. “The girls even approached Kevin and said, ‘Dad, when Amy’s around, you don’t play with us.’”

In March 2018, Kevin and Amy ran away together, leading to an international investigation. Police arrested Kevin at a resort in Mexico and claimed he and Amy carried on a secretive relationship for months before running away together. Kevin is currently being held in jail on $500,000 bail. He is charged with interfering with the custody of a child.
