Alternative: Around the same time that Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" put Seattle's music in the spotlight and alternative rock dominated radio airwaves, the Redlands band Cracker featuring Camper Van Beethoven frontman David Lowery and guitarist Johnny Hickman also had the adolescent distress anthem "Teen Angst (What the World Needs Now)" in 1992, which went to No. 1 on the Billboard U.S. Modern Rock Chart.

But the band is best remembered for the 1993 song "Low." During a 2013 interview with SPIN, former bassist Davy Faragher said the song was recorded in Pioneertown with producer Don Smith. Lowery also said a representative at the band's label made him write a letter to radio stations stating lyrics in the chorus were "being stone" — not “stoned.”

In 2005, Lowery and Camper Van Beethoven began an annual tradition of hosting a small festival known as the "Campout" at Pappy and Harriets that included Cracker, solo performances by Lowery and Hickman, other bands and locals such as Jesika von Rabbit. When Lowery announced the 15th anniversary in 2019, he also said it would be the final Campout.

But Cracker is still a Pioneertown favorite and will perform on Saturday at Pappy and Harriet's.

Country: LeAnn Rimes has lived a compelling life as a musician, so it's appropriate she's titled her current tour "The Story... So Far." Rimes displayed a natural talent for singing at an early age, signed her first record contract with Curb Records at 13 and her 1996 debut "Blue" reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. Since then, she sold 48 million records worldwide, won two Grammy Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards and more.

But in 2012, Rimes checked herself into a treatment facility suffering from anxiety and stress. She's been open about her struggles and was the recipient of the 2019 HOPE Award for Depression Advocacy. Rimes is also the host of the iHeartRadio podcast, "Wholly Human."

Rimes will perform Saturday at Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa in Rancho Mirage.
