Ed and Lorraine Warren, the real-life paranormal investigators portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in The Conjuring, claimed they had taken on more than 10,000 cases over the course of their illustrious (and creepy) career. So it stands to reason that horror series that opened with a box-office bang in 2013 could go on for a very long time.

“I knew that when I signed on for the first one — both Vera and I talked and said, ‘You know, this could be something that we could do for a while, just because of the way that it’s structured,” Wilson told Yahoo Movies from the Encino, Calif. set of The Conjuring 2 (watch above). “Because we’re not following the same family. They did thousands of cases.” Indeed, the upcoming sequel takes the Warrens across the pond to investigate the infamous Enfield Poltergeist in London

Steve Coulter (The Walking Dead), who reprises his role as Father Gordon in the new film, offered this bold prediction: “There will be Conjuring 23,” he joked (we think).

Farmiga is decidedly more non-committal, but still in it for the long haul. “I do love this collaboration. I love the subject matter, and I love portraying Lorraine,” she said. “And I think there is at least a story or two more here. And I also like the idea of doing it throughout the ages.”

So like Richard Linklater’s time-spanning Before trilogy, but with ghosthunters in love? That could work.

The Conjuring 2 opens June 10.
